2019 DON'T Like (but has some things I like)
I Don't like this room at all. It's TOO rustic, the floors and ceilings are too rough. Even though it has high wood ceilings with wood beams (I normally like this), it's Too high, too cavernous, I Don't like granite countertops (I like quartz or butcher block, although I know it's not easy to clean). The island area is too - traditional and too black, too dark. Don't like it.
Again - I like the slanted ceiling, the triangular (MCM) windows, the wood on the ceiling and the MCM lighting (not sure about the lights on wires - they're o.k..), I do like unique, but simple light fixtures, but I feel like this was a trend in the 90's? I DON'T like the yellowy/brown finish on the oak floors. It makes me want to re-finish our downstairs floors immediately, as we have that, too. It also makes me realize I'd probably LOVE ours if they were finished in a light/natural tone (like the ones upstairs). DO NOT like the smooth, glitzy backsplash. "Too fancy for us" - too formal. The cabinets are o.k., but I don't like the pulls.
I love the ceilings and the built-ins, but the fireplace is too sleek. If it were stone, we'd be talking. I think the oak floors look a bit out of place here, but I think it's more the finish (we won't be replacing our oak floors anytime soon). I think if they were finished more neutral (natural, light), I'd like them better - give a bit of that 'hip' vibe. Again - windows (especially the long, horizonal clerestories) are awesome. I like slanted ceilings (MCM) - but we won't be having them at the Emerson house.
Like: wood beams over beadboard, recessed lighting, floating shelves, windows. DON'T LIKE: pendant light fixtures are a little too weird/busy. I don't like the shiny subway tile - too flashy/shiny. I don't love the green island. Even though we have cherry shaker style cabinets - I don't like these - either the white, or the pulls (I think it's mostly the pulls - too traditional?).
I pretty much like this idea, but I Don't like the dark floors, and I'd prefer if the fireplace were not stacked stone, but more rounded stones. Otherwise, windows and slanted room and beams are good, but I think I'd prefer the beams if they were natural color or painted white (they're a bit too dark).
