Curran:Exterior
HOUSE #3 (j) Like this one a lot (mark) mountain home aesthetic is appealing. I also like the deck (+1 for Mairi). The screened area with outside fireplace is a bit large. I like the simple shed roof with the stepped out segments. Would not want glass on the street side. Natural wood outside might be a maintenance issue for us long term. TAKE HOME - How do we get this look on the view side with the simplicity of HOUSE #1 on the street side and moderate the construction costs? to discuss???
(j) I like this but is it an efficient building concept? looks like you would be constructing 2 separate buildings and joining them. Would basement be weird? (Mark) I like this a lot too. Not necessarily the two building part but the simplicity of the roof and the "feel" of the exterior walls. If we were in more of a flat valley would be very interested in this direction.
(HOUSE #1 for reference) Roof (M) this roof style addresses the criteria for no dormers. It is also simpler to construct and we can still get a great R-value just need to size and make it feel right in proportion to the rest of the house. (MARK) I like this a lot. It's the style and simple box construction I was thinking of. Proportion doesn't feel quite right in the pictures. Not that keen on the batten board siding treatment. Would like to have some variety but perhaps that comes on the "view side". As a working reference this could be a nice start. The view shown would work for the "road" facing part of our home. But the view facing side needs to be super cool. Not keen on the side deck. For us think the deck goes on the view side. Wonder if breaking this into two squares with different height rooflines (opposing shed style?) could make it more interesting while maintaining the general simplicity. Or maybe a raised middle section and two smaller sections on either end.
