We will be moving the induction cooktop (we are electric today) vs gas. How the ovens are placed within the space is a big question. I have seen mostly gas cooking in these photos - with wall ovens (though that has received bad press in some articles - too visual for the amount they're used). We are open to ideas and not against wall ovens. Just making the note.
I like the hidden prep stool solution here. My original request for seating for 5 is falling behind because eventually there won't be 5 here. Flexibility in the island is key. (seating, serving area - homework area) The area behind - could that be the reduced depth cabinets? would it look to shallow? Not looking for varying height island - would consider a curve. For the space single level seems to make the most flexible sense.
Island eventually match shelves and mantle of fireplace? While not this wood - I needed to make sure we noted it.
Doors to close off areas as needed (this would be between kitchen and dining possibly) These are my favorite doors.
Wet bar area behind kitchen table flanks the family room - gives quick access to beverages from outside?
Possible treatment along wall between kitchen and family room? Open top? If we keep wall all together does it make sense?
This is the other angle of the photo I just added. It is very similar to what we have today minus the stove sharing the wall w/ the sink. NOTE: I found this kitchen save three different times in my own kitchen workbook. I figured that was worth noting_. The colors - the spaciousness while not appearing huge)
Option of sink and stove on wall with Long Island? Of course we want the wider windows. also liked the - extra seating. I DEFINITELY need outlets in the island - because we love additional prep space. Plus when we work at the island we can plug in a laptop.
I like the idea of the pocket doors here in the event that we need to use the dining space as an office (so it can be closed or open.) I like the ability to have the light from the front of the house reach the kitchen area. (there are other doors I liked better in this workbook)
Windows and the doors. Could this work? Narrower island give us space for U-shape? Too tight?
Based on the span of the window I'm wondering if this might be an option? In place of casement (crank window) we'd use double hung to not impact the porch). The grids here I like however throughout the rest of the house we have top and bottom grids...not sure if we need to match that or if this would be OK. Thoughts?
