Valentine's Day Gift: 5 Habits To Develop For Your Partner's Sake
Looking for a meaningful Valentine's Day gift? How about gifting a new and improved you?
Do you feel that Valentine’s day cards, flowers, chocolates are now passe’? Want to present something truly worthwhile to your partner or spouse? Then consider these 5 ideas. Instead of giving your loved one something that will fade away, get consumed or wilt soon, how about taking up habits that will go a long way in ensuring a happy companionship.
2. Fairly divide your chores
When you are living with someone and sharing the same space, you need to agree to some ground rules for a peaceful co-existence. Instead of fighting over the dirty dishes and the dusty table tops, discuss and divide your home duties clearly. Set aside a weekend to purge your home of accumulated trash, or do a thorough cleaning of the house together.
Tip: While you shouldn’t “keep score” of who is compromising on what, know that over the long run, your relationship should feel equitable. Also remember, these tasks aren’t written in stone – so cut each other some slack every once in a while, be forgiving and generous towards each other.

3. Respect the other’s space
While doing things together and spending long hours with each other go a long way in building a good, healthy relationship, it’s important to give each other space too. If your partner has had a long day at work and they want to relax by watching reruns of a show for hours, give them the space to unwind and do what pleases them. Also, give each other the time and space to pursue activities and hobbies that the other may not necessarily be interested in.

5. Designate a time in the day when you are gadget-less
While you may love spending time with your smart phone, Kindle, iPad or Xbox, decide to go gadget-less for a certain time in the day when you are together with your partner. If you’re a messy, sloppy person (and deep within you know it), then now is a good time to turn a new leaf. After all, not even blind love can save you from putting your partner off with your unclean habits.
Start with the basic, easy things like throwing out the old left overs from your fridge, remembering to take out your trash every morning. If leave your wet towels around and it is a habit your partner is irked by, then now is a good time to pull the plug on it. Of course, it isn’t easy to become a brand new person – habits take a while to internalise. But if you’re committed to your spouse/ partner, this is the least you can do for them.
