In this pic, you can see that the stair treads are a different wood from the floor, but the painted riser/stringers and runner help to hide this.

In this instance, the carpet covers more of the tread, up to the railing pickets, with just a bit of wood showing. Also can be a nice option if you want to simply hide damage to the treads. The white risers/stringers is nice as well.

There are two ways to do a runner, this type is called a waterfall, a continuous run of carpet. The other is when the tread is wrapped around the nosing and then the riser is a separate piece.

I like the tape edge on the runner, although I wouldn't do it along the bottom riser as they have done I don't think.

Dark runner is nice too to marry to the railing.

Carpeted tread runners and risers. Treads natural, risers/stringers painted. Very elegant. I would do a darker runner for sure.

An all white stair with metal railings. Definitely a striking look!

Here is a dark stain/paint with no runner. Also very classy. The general colour scheme here though is grey tones, walls etc. I recall your house being more in beige/taupe tones. We need to be sensitive to other elements.

Fully painted stair on wood floor. I would do a softer tone of carpet runner that blends the wood floor with the stair.

Dark treads with white risers/stringers. Great classic look. Can be paired with eclectic rug, here, or neutral wool berber per our discussion.

an example of wood with white risers/stringers. Will the wood be more compatible between stair and floor with this paint between?
