Decorative wooden wall panels are a great way to infuse a warm and comfortable vibe to the overall decor of the living room. Additionally, wood is an amazing medium that not only makes the home feel more inviting but effortlessly mixes with a variety of design styles, such as modern, traditional and transitional. Remember that some tones of wood are dark and tend to create a bit of a dark ambience. Here are 10 decorative wooden wall-panelling ideas. Take your pick.
1. In this living room, the decorative wooden wall panelling is a continuous grid of square dark wood panels along the entire length of the wall. Each square wooden frame is bevelled and elaborately detailed to give the living room a luxurious look.
Note: Each square of the wooden panelling (as seen in the image above) can be machine-cut or hand-cut by carpenters and then assembled at site. The wooden panelling is then polished to achieve the desired finish. Note that only experienced carpenters can give you a good finish for elaborate detailing in wood.

2. Design the ceiling in tandem with the wooden wall panelling, as in this example. The sleek rectangular cut-outs within the wooden wall panelling and ceiling create an interesting 3D effect and take the design to a whole new level.
3. In this picture, just see how an array of vertical wooden battens imparts a sleek and modern look to the living room. The slatted wall looks neat, adds texture and brings so much depth to the space.
4. In this example, dark veneer is used in a simple way to clad the entire length of one wall that also incorporates a shallow alcove; the dark wood provides sharp contrast to the rest of the space. Note how the light-coloured furniture, flooring and ceiling stand out against the dark wood panelling. So chic!
5. Another way to introduce wood panelling into the living room is by keeping the walls simple, in a neutral shade of wall paint. Use wood panelling just behind the TV unit, and make it the focal point of the living room.
6. Take a look at this living room. The wood panelling forms the backdrop for the TV; it then travels from the wall to the ceiling where it makes provision for concealed lighting and then connects to the lower floor with vertical battens. It is such an interesting way to visually connect different levels of the home.
7. Add function and aesthetics to the wooden wall panelling, like in this living-cum-entertainment room. The design of the lower cabinets continues onto the walls. Long boards have been laid horizontally to create fixed wall panels, projected shelves and strategically placed voids (surfaces finished in wall paint) that form the backdrop for the objects on display.
8. Here, the veneer is sectioned into different shapes and wood grain is arranged in different directions to form an interesting pattern in the wooden wall panelling. A diamond pattern covers this feature wall to create an elegant geometric effect; the natural colour variations of wood give a dynamic look.
9. Give a 3D look to your wooden wall panelling; in this example, differently-sized rectangular box panels of various thicknesses overlap each other. The projected panels house LED lights that radiate a soft glow, add warmth and enhance the design of the wall.
10. Who says that wooden wall panelling only includes horizontal or vertical panels? In this living room, elaborate floral carving in walnut wood forms an exclusive backdrop and adds a good touch of artistry. Make sure to keep the surrounding area light, with minimum furniture to keep all attention on the wall.
