The clients were keen on channelling plenty of natural light into the bungalow; this vision inspired Kapil Aggarwal, founder and principal architect of SPACES ARCHITECTS@ka to envelop the duplex home in large glazed windows on three sides. “The aesthetic was pointed at directing maximum daylight into the interior space. As per the brief, we designed the formal drawing and dining areas, the open kitchen and two bedrooms on the ground floor, and three bedrooms and a family lounge on the first floor. Each space was designed as a yin to the yang of the view outdoors,” recalls Aggarwal.

The living room features double-height glazing along its outer wall, which helps flood natural light and air into the interior space.
“The decor is subtle, and the eclectic selection of artwork steals the limelight. Each piece of furniture and each decor element was handpicked to suit the clients’ style and sensibilities. Some designs were customised to fit the envisioned aesthetic,” Aggarwal says.

The adjoining dining room, accented in grey and silver, is a minimalist departure from the warm tones of the formal living room. An eight-seater marble dining table takes centre stage, illuminated by a matte silver chandelier. A cosy grey sectional sits by the window to the left of the table, making an inviting spot for relaxed post-dinner conversations.

The ivory-toned kitchen is cocooned in glass on three sides, opening into the dining room through a glass partition. The eye-catching patterned floor and the multicoloured mosaic backsplash lend visual variety to the otherwise pared-back space.
The son’s bedroom, located on the ground floor, is designed with strokes of black and grey. A chalkboard hung over the bed displays a potpourri of colourful quotes.
“We were keen on giving each room an individual identity. In line with that thought, we created the son’s room as a monochrome escape; an aesthetic far removed from the rest of the home,” notes Aggarwal.

A meditation zone, flanked by traditional wooden columns, serves as a peaceful transition area between the formal dining and living rooms. It is underpinned by a floor installation that suggests a rectangular pool of water, and is embellished with laser-cut aquatic patterns. To the right, a wooden staircase leads to the first floor.
The staircase is characterised by a constellation of vivid pendant lights. It ends in a lobby that leads to the master bedroom, the daughter’s bedroom and the guest bedroom.
In the master bedroom, warm timber panels frame the wall and ceiling, providing a showcase for the 3D hexagonal statement panel above the headboard. The room, highlighted in smoke blue and dove grey, is enhanced by natural light filtering through the glazed windows.

The daughter’s bedroom comes alive in shades of biscuit, magenta and bubblegum pink.
“The panelled wall above the headboard reveals an abstract sliver of cheery magenta, while laser-cut patterns on the ceiling give the room a quirky spin,” says Aggarwal.

The guest bedroom is doused in carnelian and white, a bold contrast from most of the other bedrooms. A wooden grid along the ceiling infuses rustic warmth into the rich space.

The upstairs lobby also opens to a lounge atop a raised wooden platform. The difference in level provides a sense of seclusion and privacy to the laid-back space, which is separated from the lobby by a wall of glass.
