1. In an ideal vastu layout, the living room or hall should be in the east or in the north part of the house. A living room in the north-west relates to vayu (wind) energies, which bring movement and restlessness. So, people who do not want too many guests in the house or want the guests to leave early should have the living room in the north-west part of the home.
2. Having a living room in the south-west relates to prithvi (earth), which relates to stability. Thus a living room in the south-west direction generally makes guests feel at home and comfortable. It encourages them to stay put for a long time and they do not leave early easily, thus sometimes making the home owner uncomfortable.

3. A recommended vastu design is one where the flooring slopes in the east or the north direction. The furniture, showcases and other heavy items should be in the west or in the south or south-west of the room. The seating for the head of the house should face the east or the north.
The TV should be placed on the east wall, in the south-east corner of the house.

4. Pictures or artworks of wild animals, guns, swords and wars should not be displayed in the living room as these invoke negative energy. Pictures of gods, gurus or waterfalls should be hung in the north-east corner. Pictures of birds or running horses are best displayed in the north-west section of the room.
It’s always recommended to have a water fountain, water feature or fish tank in the north-east corner of the living room.

5. Flowers inject positive energy into a space but it is always recommended to have real flowers in the house. Chinese bamboo plants are especially considered extremely lucky in vastu, as these bring good luck. Money plants should be kept in water – these will bring prosperity. Artificial flowers, on the other hand, attract negative energies, as they are mostly made of plastic and plastic represents dead, stale energy. Also keep in mind that no dried flowers should be kept inside the room, so as soon as the plants and flowers start drying, they should be replaced with fresh flowers.
6. Furniture should not be circular, triangular, egg-shaped, hexagonal or any other odd shape. It should be square or rectangular. Circular or odd-shaped furniture is believed to bring confusion into life.

8. Exposed overhead beams are considered bad as they create the feeling of depression. It is recommended to have a false ceiling to hide or camouflage the beams, thus avoiding the inflow of negative energies.
