Color schemes, styles, and finishes
I think this has some similarities to what we're trying to achieve in our kitchen. I note the linear quartz island and neutral perimeter quartz. This is siena silver travertine from Walker Zanger. I actually like the hood cabinet and might like the island fixture as well. What about this cabinet color?
This is simple and homey and cozy. The island is a bit too heavy, though we're open to a stained island to make it appear more furniture like, and maybe more important, just kind of blend into the floor since our space is so narrow. This is probably on par with our kitchen size and age of our house. Like the accent of painted interior cab, but not a fan of the color. Any test
This is a golf course club house, so it is on too large of a scale, but I do like the subtle, elegant feel of it. I'm not in love with the light fixture, nor the stainless shelves on the backsplash. Maybe I just love fancy millwork on cabinet doors! I think the cabinets are whiite, but they look a bit creamy here to me.
This is the inspiration for our island, perhaps with less boxlike legs. Wish it could be inspiration for the whole kitchen. LOL. The far side has open shelves for frequently used items. We will have only cabinets, not a microwave drawer facing out to the den. We're not married to this, so if you have a better idea, we're open. We thought it had potential as our space is so narrow and the stools could scoot under nicely. Note: I love the look of a wooden top of the island, but I doubt if it is a good idea in terms of maintenance/wear/tear?
Here is a peek at the short side of the island near the cooktop. Jim thinks he wants open shelves there, but he can be talked out of it. I think the shelves look nice with how they tie into the island top, but if we decide to stay away from a wood top, I wonder if the wooden shelves would look random?
This is Alyse Edwards tile. It may be too long for our little kitchen. It also depends on what colors we choose for cabinets and the counters.
I might be open to using a blue-gray color somewhere in the kitchen. Perhaps somewhere between these two shades....I like the natural wooden drawers inside.
This is an example of the type of cabinets we plan on. Shaker with full overlay. I think this will work well in our small space.
We'd like to step back our cabinet to the right of the fireplace in this similar fashion. We'll need help with selecting the best facing and hearth for the fireplace. Unfortunately, I don't think we have enough surrounding inches to do both the hard surface and the wood trim. The selection will have to work well with the hard surface/tile selections in the kitchen as it will basically be one room. Would glass shelves or interior shelf wall lining be a good idea in our space?
A possibility for over dining room table?
