Why think of a dressing table as a separate piece of furniture for your bedroom? It can be easily incorporated within the design of the wardrobe or almirah, especially if your bedroom is compact. This way, you will not only manage to make optimum use of the bedroom space but will also be able to create a small vanity for your personal grooming.

Here are some ideas on how you can combine a dresser unit within the design of your wardrobe.

1. The best way to create a dresser within your wardrobe is by creating a niche (usually positioned in the horizontal centre of the wardrobe) and fixing a mirror within the niche. This arrangement gives a neat and tidy look to rest of the room without creating any kind of visual clutter.

Note: The width of the dresser should be at least 30 inches, while the finished height of the dresser’s platform can range between 24 and 36 inches; the lower area, below the dresser counter, is used for storage.

2. In this example, the niche for the dresser is positioned in the centre of the wardrobe and is further demarcated with a lower set of differently-sized drawers. The wardrobe door shutters are fabricated in frosted glass to break the monotony of an all-brown wardrobe.

3. Consider installing full-length mirrors on at least one or two wardrobe shutters, as in this image. Mirrors visually increase the size of the room and add to the illusion of space. These mirrors also enable one to get full view of oneself, which is useful while draping the Indian saree.

4. This is a luxurious space – one can achieve this by creating a single drawer unit to demarcate the mirror section from the lower void that is used to tuck in the cushioned vanity chair or stool, as in this example.

Additionally, the mirror is extended to the ceiling of the room to give a feeling of expanse and more height to the dressing table.

5. For a clean-lined look, hide the dresser behind a wardrobe shutter when it is not in use.

6. Also, when the dresser is closed, it melds with the façade of the wardrobe. This gives a clean look to the bedroom and keeps the clutter of your makeup table away from sight.

7. In this walk-in closet, the open-style wardrobe extends further to become a dresser cum seating area and makes good use of the corner of this room. This type of design is best suited if you do not want to break the continuity of the wardrobe with a dresser unit and want to make multi-functional use of the corners of the room.

8. A dresser is incomplete without utility shelves, electrical points and adequate lighting. In this dresser, custom-built shelves by the side create a display area for beauty products and crystal perfume bottles.

9. This space does not forget to incorporate electrical points for the hair dryer, mobile phone charger and individual switches for controlling the dresser lights.

Excellent article and thank you for using one of our images. Bedrooms are often overlooked, but always very important. Kitchens are becoming more where we live, socialise and prepare our food, but you also need that special place to prepare yourself for play and sleep.

It is very interesting.

Also I wish houzz can write an article about painting of metal grills, gates as this area is not well looked yet , especially colouring, finishing etc.
