With urban home sizes shrinking, you want to make the most of every inch of that precious space and squeeze things into every odd corner, especially in the kitchen. And as home-owners, while we do prefer conventional layouts (think L- or U-shaped), out-of-the-box kitchen floor-plans can also provide for ample storage, allow unobstructed movement and make working in the kitchen a breeze. Take a look at these kitchen designs that transform the odd into the bespoke.
1. The curved shape of this kitchen offers plenty of storage opportunities above and below the counter, with a streamlined look. The semicircular layout provides visual interest and is space-efficient, with the stove and oven lined up with the cabinets along the counter.
2. I love how this kitchen embraces the odd angles of the wall. While this layout may seem claustrophobic for smaller kitchens, it makes a seamless transition in open-plan layouts like this.

3. The semi-hexagonal shape of this kitchen offers plenty of storage without intruding on any extra floor area. Placing a small kitchen island in the centre allows unrestricted movement while giving an extra workstation and storage option.
4. A meandering half-U layout like this offers more storage capacity as compared to galley kitchens, with plenty of room for cabinets. The bling-y backsplash further accentuates the curvy design.
5. Curves and more curves. This one excludes sharp angles from the cabinetry, layout and also the kitchen island. With a high but comfortable seating arrangement, this design focuses on the island as a communication hub and the kitchen as the heart of the home.
6. The angled wall of this kitchen is accentuated with a complementary kitchen island. The island length is just right to give a clean-lined look, without encroaching on the thoroughfare area.
7. The kitchen island in this circular layout helps demarcate boundaries in an open-plan space. It’s an efficient and functional layout to minimise footsteps, with everything accessible within the radius.
8. Odd angles give a one-of-a-kind twist to this U-shaped kitchen. See how the cabinets are customised to fit the microwave, sink and the rest of the appliances. while ensuring optimum storage. Equipped with modern amenities and bountiful of storage, this design shows how angled layouts can be functional.
9. Even with an awkwardly angled ceiling, this modern kitchen steals the show. Windows and white paint instantly brighten up the small sleek kitchen to make it seem more spacious.
10. Here’s another circular kitchen with a teardrop-shaped island positioned under the round skylight. Doing so makes the island accessible from all areas and is a nice way to bring in another unique shape.
