Don't assume factory cabinets are a better deal or are cheaper than custom. Be wary if you have arrived just before a "great sale" with a deadline sooner than you're comfortable with. This is a big investment and the design accuracy is critical to the project, so get some patience as they want your money.
Is the supplier providing their expertise by measuring the job or just sitting behind a desk? The installer or project manager should be involved prior to design & purchase so they understand the on site issues (sizes, plumbing, duct & electrical locations) and can convey them to the designer.
Look at every detail of the installed product in the showroom. Look under the uppers, under the island overhangs to understand how they're treated or not. Look at the box without a counter covering the construction. Understand the interior surfaces. How will your undercabinet lights fit? How will your bar overhang be supported?
