‘Ensuite’ stands for a bathroom attached to a bedroom, and comes from the French words ‘en suite’, which mean ‘to form a suite’. It immediately adjoins the bedroom or is an extension of it. These 20 attached bathrooms show how the ensuite can become an at-home luxury – with or without physical partitions.
1. Vertical wooden battens work as a stylish semi-open partition to demarcate the bedroom from the bathroom. The gap between the slats helps create openness and retain a visual connect.
2. Tucked away in a galley, this ensuite bathroom introduces a touch of luxe to the industrial-style bedroom. With no physical boundaries, you simply walk into the shower area.

3. This ensuite finds a balance between the indoors and the outdoors. The more interesting bit is another room inside, with the WC and a bookshelf. Quiet times.
4. This one, like many others in this collection, is not for the faint-hearted. This space challenges the notion of personal boundaries, with just glass creating a partition between the bathroom and bedroom. It helps let in views and light but keeps off any splashes.
5. Mint-green glass and tiles give this bathroom a breath of freshness. A transparent glass wall separates the bathroom from the bedroom, and there is a further glassed-in subsection for the shower stall, as well.
6. Even a compact room can have an ensuite, as you can see, and who says you need a wall to separate spaces. Here, the wardrobe acts as a divider.
7. This spacious ensuite is all glass and views. Separated from the bedroom by only a transparent wall, it mirrors the refined, laid-back feel of the rest of the house.

8. Not just the twin vanity, but the bathroom is right there in the bedroom, too. The space shines with its polished rusticity, with the stone wall and the exposed cement surfaces.

9. Done up in neutral hues, the wall for the headboard doubles as a partition to separate the bathroom from the bedroom. A cubicle-like space has been fashioned behind the bed, which is further partitioned into the WC and the sink and shower areas. I love the rimmed black slab by the bathtub, which prevents water from spilling over onto the rest of the floor.
10. Placed on an elevated platform, the bathtub takes the centre stage in this ensuite – with the option to draw the curtains. The exposed wooden ceiling beams add to the drama and contrast with the cool grey tiles. Shielding the WC area with translucent glass helps bring in more privacy.
11. The glass enclosure gives a clean-lined view of the black bathtub and demarcates the wet zone. The warm wooden flooring offsets the bold and sharp black stripes and stone.
12. This open-air ensuite takes me back to rural life in days gone by, with its stone-finished fibre tiles and slate walls. The skylight, the sunk-in tub and the plants drive in the edgy natural look.

13. Transparent glass partitions this ensuite without shrinking spaces. Venetian blinds bring a dose of privacy and cut down excess light when you are in the mood for a candle-light bath.
14. In this ensuite, the shower and WC are inside the glass enclosure while the bathtub is placed right under the skylight to make the most of natural light. The grey curb defines the varying floor levels and separates the bathroom from the bedroom.
15. This ensuite is charming in its vintage appeal and sings opulence and glamour with a freestanding copper tub and rich teal-blue doors.
16. In this space, the open-plan ensuite maintains privacy of each area with a wall partition and further demarcates them with different flooring. Though installed under an awkward yet interesting ceiling-corner, the bathtub sure gets a spa-worthy view – and maintains connectivity between the two zones.
17. The long space is divided into a bedroom and bathroom. Natural light floods this entire space and gives it a bright and airy vibe. A floor-to-ceiling window adjacent to the bathtub ensures you don’t miss out on that gorgeous view.
18. With a framed vanity unit that acts as a wall to demarcate two spaces, this design hits the nail on the head about how to maintain flow and continuity. It’s a convenient layout with the bathroom accessible from either side of the partition.
19. The beauty of this ensuite is the bathtub that fits seamlessly into the bedroom decor. And what a unique design it has, with the built-in bookshelves. The WC and shower area are separated by a wall but the sleek washbasin is right in view.
20. Here’s a Moroccan-inspired ensuite with intricate laser-cut, powder-coated bronze screens that bring another visual and functional layer to the design.
