Kurz New House - Living & Dining
Pic102 Tony: Example of "invisible" lighting. The 6 small lights in the ceiling are barely noticeable but they illuminate the whole room evenly Michele: are you all wanting to change any of the general lighting? - Tony: Not the general (built in) lighting at this time. Please include free-standing lamp recommendations in your design. I called this out because I think good lighting design can really make or break a room, especially the living room.
Pic108 Susan: I like the shelving as a way to store and display books and pottery, pictures, etc. I also like the leather chairs (not in white though) and glass table. Tony: I guess we have to decide if we are moving in the Mid-Century direction. No opposed to it, but it seems to be tough to mix and match MCM elements with other styles Michele: Agree to some extent on mcm, but think modern is a better way to go with some transitional- modern pieces. Some mcm fun accents could be great w/ out getting too retro. Tony & Susan: Agree.
Pic114 Susan: I like the use of space in this room, with the piano and a chair in one nook and the main seating area close by but visually separate, yet integrated. I like the seating area too -- the seats are close enough to carry on a conversation. Yellow wouldn't be my choice of an accent color though.
Pic115 Susan: I like the integration of the shelves with the fireplace and TV. I like the varied seating options in the room. It has a cozy feel to me. I don't love the table in the middle or all of the throw pillows on the couch that look like you have to arrange/rearrange them every time someone sits down (to get comfortable) and again when someone gets up (so they don't look sloppy). Tony: Agree.
Pic116 Susan: I like the use of space in this room. I like the sectional with the colorful, comfortable chair (and pop of color carried through in the couch cushions). I also like the footrests/stools (texture and function). I like the lamp. Tony: Not a fan of sectionals. Unless all the people on the sectional are family/friends/horny teenagers, it's kinda awkward. Separate pieces offer more flexibility and you give you natural personal space (by being in your own chair or on one end of the couch or the other. Michele: This feel would be great in your house and we can consider pieces that work best in the room...doesn't have to be a sectional:) Tony: I'm open to your thoughts on this but this is not my favorite. The table is a bit too modern/cold and the huge lamp dominates the room. Open to your ideas though.
Pic000 Tony Living Room Like #1: A room with a lot of different things going on (colors, textures, shapes.) within a neutral palette with a few strong accent items. The colors don't have to be vivid, just different. Like #2: A neutral wall color that allows for flexibility in changing furnishings/themes Dislike #1: Rooms that are rigidly structured with strong or large geometric elements (large light fixtures, long vertical shelving with no breaks or detail, very square couches. Dislike #2: For our house, very severe, monolithic styles. Might work in a loft but not on our house. Dislike #3: Sectionals.
