Elsa's ideas
This article argues that it's possible to have a successful wood countertop with a sink. I liked the discussion about many layers of varnish. That seems to be the way to go. I'm leaning toward a wood-topped island.
Calacatta Classique from Premium Natural Quartz from MSI.
Honed Neolith (porcelain) that mimics Statuario marble.
This is a quartz that looks like marble. The name of the company that makes this stone is AUREA STONE(It is sold exclusively through OHM international which is a wholesale facility). The name of the particular stone is called PHIDAS.
Also Calacatta Quartz, but I don’t know the brand.
Island: Calacata 981 quartz, Walker Zanger, fabricated and installed by Sublime Custom Stone.
This is a quartz.
Jim and I went to Atlantic granite and marble Group in Falmouth and found a lot of great countertops. This was a nice one: calacatta venice 3cm Quartz. The owner of the shop said this one was about $85 a square foot. Jim and I both liked the honed finish.
Nice cabinet color and style. I like the little feet on the cabinets.
Quartzite Counter in Supreme white or super white.
The counter in this photo is white granite. Another countertop option for a light color.
Different roofline, but here’s a nice “window corner” like the one I want.
Hutch-wall idea.
“Neolith” countertop: worth looking into?
Check out “Mont Blanc” p1009-vl laminate countertop for quality and feel. I like the look.
Quartz countertop. Nice color and feel. Also: I like the shape and size of the backsplash tiles, though I would want them all one color.
Nice paint color for cabinets. I like the tile and the countertop, too.
Hutch idea. Paint is too dark and the counter is too deep in all likelihood. (The room is kind narrow.) But I like all the glass. No wine fridge needed.
Now that I’ve posted some black counters, here’s a totally opposite look: white marble. But not the real thing—alternatives would be better, I think.
This is a nice-looking concrete countertop. Can they make it a bit thinner, though? Looks a bit blocky.
Cabinet color! Plus wooden countertop?
These cabinets look like it would be costly, but they are lovely.
I prefer simply-shaped legs on the end of the island.
Corner window
Jim: how about this color? Also: idea for our “hutch” wall, on left? (Glass cabinets above, drawers below?)
I like the tiles! Maybe a bit less shiny, but the color is nice. (I don’t know if they make matte subway tiles.)
Again, ideas for the “hutch” wall. (I don’t know what else to call it—sorry!) But why not meet the ceiling? Seems odd.
I’m not sure about the design of the INSIDE of this pantry, but I’d like to highlight the use of drawers below and glass-front cabinets above. Perhaps this is an alternative to the shelf idea, which was also meant to break up a monolithic wall of cabinets. Note that the actual style of cabinet is too fancy-looking for our farmhouse look. I’m mostly noting the use of glass to break up a large visual mass.
This is probably not to be considered until very late in the process, but what about a mirror in the dining room that looks like a window. Not so industrial as this one. Maybe high enough that it’s above head- height.
Garage someday?
How about this for natural wood cabinets? Maybe a bit dark? They look expensive.
Glass-front cabinet that also has glass on the side. Nice!
Light-colored grout-nice! Also: old light-switches? Cool.
What kind of wood is this?
I like the mix of glass-front and wood-front cabinets. Counter color too dark, though.
There’s something pleasant about the size and shape of these glass-front cabinets. Maybe impractical, though?
Possible use of the side of a large cabinet: magnetic chalk board.
I like the Moroccan tiles. Trying to decide if I would get tired of them. Maybe too shiny?
I like the Moroccan tiles, though a lighter grout color would be nice.
Maybe I was too quick to dismiss the idea of an island. Something like this would provide a landing spot for dishes that are headed out to the table and provide a spot to sit for visitors to the kitchen.
I like this white fridge with French doors.
Nice color.
Maybe this is the size island we should look for.
Cool idea.
I like this table! Skinny and long. Could work!
