There’s no doubt that mirrors are a sine qua non in bathrooms round the world. Over the decades, they have become more than just functional staples, and lend character and sophistication to bathroom decor. If you’ve stuck to the bare minimum as far as mirror designs go, it’s time to swap out the builder’s grade version for something a little more glamorous. Prepare to add some sparkle and shine to your bathroom routine with these stunning concepts.
Hello, Marilyn
You don’t need to be a Hollywood A-lister to claim your share of bright lights. This classic bathroom is a tribute to starry red-carpet evenings and glittering after-parties. The black vanity mirror frame is fitted with light bulbs that border each mirror, meeting down the middle. The wallpaper captures a busy white cityscape that forms a perfect backdrop for the bold monochrome frame.

Vanilla lights

Silver moonshine
Designed by The BNK Group, this smoky Mumbai space is given a chic edge by the luminous backlit oval mirror. The mirror itself blends into the grey backdrop, allowing the backlight to form a compelling focal point.

Khosla Associates conjures up visions of a boutique cafe in the romantic French countryside through this powder room. A modern twist on a vintage cheval mirror, this oversized turquoise-rimmed masterpiece holds its own in this summery space, and offers impetus to an otherwise basic layout.
Tip: Have a lifesize frame fitted with a mirror to create a custom accent for your bathroom decor.

Goan starburst
Drawing from Goa’s colonial roots, Branco Villa combines old-world charm and contemporary flair. The starburst mirror is a refreshing shift from the colonial elements that line the vanity: a carved stone sink and a shiny diamond mosaic band for a splashback. Despite its freshness, the mirror still evokes an air of old-school chic.

Rococo revival
Is it a display item? Is it a mirror? Or is it both? A mirror with a burnished gold rococo frame hangs above a floating vanity, making for a head-turning visual statement. The gold scrollwork border stands out from the mellow wall palette, and is complemented by intricate Victorian cornices and a classic dome that typify the baroque aesthetic.

Royal indulgence
Steeped in Egyptian blue, this indulgent Mumbai retreat by ACDS employs a mammoth mirror that seamlessly melds into the luxurious decor. The embossed reflective frame pops from the matte royal-blue wallpaper, despite being identical in colour.

Rustic charm
Having crafted this powder room in layers of chestnut, the designers have been thoughtful about juxtaposing elements in the space. A metal scrollwork mirror frame adds pizzazz to the rustic decor. It is subtle, yet arresting, as it shines in the golden light.

Windows of silver
Like glorious windows to the outdoors, these mirror panels promise a different view from every angle. At first glance, they almost offer the illusion of a vintage vanity table. The layout, designed by Mumbai-based Architecture Brio, is a trip back in time to the ’60s and ’70s, when triple-mirror dressing tables were all the rage.

Glimmer and shimmer
Bringing together shimmering whites, cool lilacs and deep violets, this contemporary Mumbai bathroom by Make Bathroom uses a column of reflective glass mosaic to highlight a large oval mirror. On its own, the mirror is simple and borderless, but it serves to balance the mix of shades in the surrounding scheme.

Classic grid
Freewheeling patterns and crisp, geometric mirrors play up the earthy colour palette in this ochre bathroom by Gurgaon-based Essentia Environments. See how the mirrored grid on the right is paired with a sweeping mirror on the left.
