Ceilings
You wouldn’t have to have a pattern in the paint. Just recess in a little and put in the texture or paint. Take the textured ceiling all the way to the walls, not with a border like it’s been done here.I like this natural almost white washed color.
This room would look better if the wall made of drywall soffit that attached to the central stone wall
Considered it painted wainscot ceiling over the dining area
Yuk! Is this called A vault or a cathedral style? How do we create a symmetrical look over to walls of windows?Leaving at 9 feet and painting it is probably the cheapest option.Vaulting the Ceiling almost dictates the need to paint it the same color as the room. Has a nice advantage of creating not so much wall space above the 7 foot windows.
As far as beams go, this is a good color. That looks like a 9 foot ceiling.
2 9" beams at the top bring the ceiling down to 7'6". If a single beam is on the ceiling, it almost feels to high to be seen. Alternatively, a 9" soffit can come down rest on the beam. The wall should be heavily textured like the beam.
The look we're leaning toward. It isn't overdone. I'd rather rececess the kitchen ceiling and put up a textured treatment than these beams. I don’t like a soffit coming down on the beams. It seems like the beams need to touch the ceiling.
Yuk! The soffit is not thick enough or long enough.
Yuk!
This trim around the windows ties in with the beans. And my great room, it would wrap around the bottom of the soffits at each end of the room. Then I would not try to do the same headband in the rec room.
This is what my living room area would look like with short thick walls. These beams would look much nicer if they were white.
White beams are more refined, less rustic. I like this transom window that acts as a soffit, but it would be necessary to repeat it on the south wall and may be over my office alcove
I could maybe do beams like this in my office area on the back of the house to lower the ceiling further and cozy it up. I would need to tie it in with the bookcase and add it to the soffit going across the kitchen.
I like a rustic beam. It won’t show where. It can sit at the bottom of the soffit, tie in with my book shelves and desk, look nice with the island ceiling treatment and go across the ceiling just in the office area.
I don’t like dark beams
If I do beams, they should be used to form the bottom of thesoffits as well. Perhaps the kitchen could have beams running across it instead of a ceiling treatment. Or the island could have a stainless steel insert above it and the office area could have the beams. And nicely finished beam like this will show more wear.
I like these tapered columns on the inside of the house as well as the outside.
I think it makes more sense to put the beams in the great room and stain them Maybe the color of the woodstove cabinet. If I need them in both rooms, stain them in one room and paint them white in the other.
These columns would work at the end of the island if we need them for support. With them in place, we might not need a ceiling treatment above the cooktop
Great room
This doesn’t look right. In a case like this, the beams should be white. Or there should be beams at the bottom of this office to make a frame for the cross beamsThis looks like just a 12 inch soffit running around the perimeter of the room. It allows the walls to be painted a different color in the surrounding softened.
I would want the beans to but up against each other, not run into the drywall like this.
This is what it would look like To have a soffit in front of the kitchen.
At the end of the hall there’s a ceiling treatment that creates a cozy area. Consider this for my office area.
There’s a drop soffit over the entryway which continues over the kitchen with a treatment that provides us. We should maybe just leave the entry ceiling alone for now. If you need something, we can add a floating trellis or floating wood ceiling just over the entry later.I think there is a soffit above this dark entry wall which allows it to be painted a different color.
I like the soffit for my back kitchen wall. No trim necessary. The next picture looks better because the soffit is deeper. I think I should go with the deeper (2’?) soffit
This kitchen soffit probably 3 feet deep. Notice how the soffit is left white, not painted like the wall. Perhaps the soffit looking toward the great room should at least be left white.
I like the simple lines and low profile of this furniture for my great room.
I love painted ceilings. Particularly in the hallways and the great room
Maybe create just a small trade area above the island. He doesn’t need to go all the way to 10 feet, maybe just make it 6 inches. He creates nice variety in the ceiling
White might look better
