Silpa & Srinivas Residence
It’s a rare opportunity and privilege to design a house for an interior designer and an artist you admire. The pressure was high but thankfully my client was the absolute best.
The bare 4,070 sq ft apartment needed to be primed in a record time of three months right in the middle of a raging pandemic. Mask on, sanitizer in tow, I marched on to the site daily to get things done.
My brief was to design a comfortable and minimalistic service apartment with lots of light and space. The requirement was to keep it simple, low maintenance, yet contemporary and cool; a fun space to work from home but also entertain friends in style.
In my work, I believe in finding that fine balance between functionality and comfort while incorporating the works of local craftsmanship and international artists in a chic yet elegant manner. My client had invested in a few original art pieces, and we used them to create focal points in various rooms. Her love for pop colors gave us the freedom to use subtle colors for the walls and highlight them with brighter shades or patterns. The lounge and the bedrooms were designed keeping this philosophy in mind.
The lounge extends into an entertainment room that is designed to be soundproof when enjoying a movie on the 70” TV screen with surround sound. We used soundproof sliding doors which can be opened to enlarge the space and accommodate more guests for a party.
Our homes are our pride and joy! Most of us work hard for several years to be able to own our homes and create a personal space we love. There are little details and personal touches incorporated by way of color; statement pieces like Karbon , the vintage look of the blue rattan cane chair, the minimal & modern take on the puja room, the gorgeous teak wood sideboard with brass finished drawers and another with hand painted drawers. The photo feature wall in the formal living room is a celebration of the owners cherished memories from travels across the globe that evoke nostalgia and a greater sense of happiness.
The apartment has a large balcony with a fantastic view from the 31st floor overlooking the hip and happening part of town. It’s designed with casual cane seating with a pebble tiled floor perfect for a weekend alfresco breakfast or the place for a night cap while watching the twinkling lights of the city to end your day.
