Nice "rustic" cheese board. I'd like to see some ideas for a smaller board for inside serving. I usually do cheeses, nuts, fresh and dried fruits. Anything more and I might have to remove a door.

I love cheese platter, and as a mother and sister of people who love them too but can't eat gluten, let me give you a piece of advice. If the gluten crackers are on the board, they can not eat anything because of cross-contamination. I give you two ideas: you can put the crackers in two different bowls (1 for gluten ones and one for gluten free ones), or you directly set a different board with all gluten-free ingredients. You could even place a cute "gluten-free" label on the last one!

Having glue-free crackers in a separate bowl is a nice gesture, but for those who have to avoid gluten entirely, there would be cross contamination from the cheeses and foods (cheese knives/spreaders) on the main platter. There's no point in providing these crackers if the person who needs cannot eat them!

Both Nati and Karen are right about the cross contamination issues when you must eat gluten free (or have any allergy eg peanuts, shrimp etc). You are best to have a separate smaller board with only gluten free items and mark it gluten free. The host must also be aware of contaminants in the food products eg do those meats contain any gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats, malt)? If not sure, ask the person(s) to read the label before putting the item on the gf board or plate. If also having a buffet, let the gf person serve themselves first with your direction about what is possible for them to eat. They will also ask you questions to confirm. It may seem like extra work for you, but anyone who must eat gf will love you and thank you for thinking of them.

I'm thinking that I wouldn't want any cheeses that require a cheese spreader or knife, to be sitting on "rustic" wood but it looks really nice for items you can just pick up or ones that are in interesting bowls. I grew up loving "rustic country" stuff {and still do} when country wasn't cool, now people can't get enough of it! I have family & friends who are vegetarian, so I never place meats nestled next to other items. I also, always keep any possible allergy foods or gluten free in separate marked bowls or platters.

I just feed everyone the GF crackers now - avoids any problems and they are delicious now so no one notices!

I love these ideas for combining different flavors (chocolate!) and colors on one big board. Easy to adjust for personal favorites and needs of guests.
