I just tried a SW stain ( they can match it in paint) called Cape Cod Red that had a definite orange undertone and a burnt orange appearance when painted on our door. I thought it might be my eyes because the color didn't really resemble the chip or this photo. Then I spilled most of a gallon in the back seat of my truck and my husband and I agreed: Nope, it's orange. It might be worth a try. It was a pretty color without falling into halloween territory. I wouls get rid of 1/2 the pillows on the sofa too matchy add an area rug that is bright with some other colors to use for accents you have IMO too much brown so I would do blue drapes in the DR take the cloth off the table and add a blue and orange glass bowl for a centerpiece filled with green apples get some pillows in green and orange and a big piece of art work for the wall above the sofa and maybe a mirror on the DR wall and a fabulous light fixture for the DR an arc lamp behind the sofa in the corner so it comes out far enough into the room to light a coffee table.

This is a fabulous room. It oozes a bygone charm that you would lose by adding false ceilings and tube lights. Please don't! Go all out to preserve this magnificent floor and the beautiful furniture. That mirror is superb, as is the old painting. Keep the wall colour as is and change the upholstery after polishing and keeping the beautiful wooden furniture. The upholstery is mismatchedat present. But the different styled armchairs look very comfortable. Keep them. No modern furniture will give you such comfort. When you re upholster, refrain from choosing firm foam and such nonsense. It is far better to have good quality down or cotton, which moulds to the body shape. Invest in a high quality traditional patterned Persian or Kashmiri carpet for a restrained stroke of colour. Your upholstery should pick up colours from this carpet. So should the curtains. Please never even consider vinyl blinds, horizontal and vertical. If you tamper with this room and remodel it to be 'modern'- you will lose a treasure.

Apologies Pro, for speaking on her behalf but I guess she is referring to the alignment of the sofa and TV unit and the viewing angle. If the sofa is placed on the orange wall it has to be done after leaving the door space where as TV is place very near to the wall. Secondly, it will be too much of a viewing distance.
