Greetings. The majority of showers do in fact incorporate tiles or stone in some form. Tile material vary's greatly from porcelain, ceramic, marble, glass to natural stone. There is a trend to use thin slab porcelain thus eliminating grout joints while getting the look and feel of natural stone. The shower base can be pre-made ( pre fabricated) but in contrast to site built, tiled bases you will be limited with the size of your shower and lack of design options. In short, showers can be made with any material you can imagine, as long as your designers and contractors have the skill and techniques to execute your design vision. Hope this helps and thanks for the question.
