Two rugs in a large living room is fine but if you have two rugs, it will look best if they are separated by more then a few feet and that they each have a separate seating area.

You could have one area with the couch, a chair, coffee table and TV.............

and the other area could have two chairs and a table with a reading lamp.

Another option is to purchase a large rug that fills much of the room. It would have to be approximately 12 x 15.........

Having two rugs side by side will definitely not be tacky. They just need to be separated by few feet. One carpet just for the TV area and the other obviously goes in the empty area coming towards the chairs. (i presume a dining table)

it can come by the wall with the black showpiece hanging. But you can have both the rugs in different sizes. the rug displayed in the picture, that size looks ok. But you could have the second carpet under the showpiece by the wall. keep it a little longer in length so that it doesn't look weird having a 5 ft carpet on wooden flooring making it look out of place.
Could also add a small side table under the showpiece, will add to the whole look.

Probably have an uplifting color. You should always have a carpet that uplifts the room.

Instead of a full size rug, you could do a runner that matches and leaves much of the beautiful wood flooring exposed. Also, I would put a hall table with a lamp underneath the large wall art, which would look great in that vacant wall space. I'm posting photos of black hall tables, as I can see that you prefer black, contemporary style furniture.
