Range hood

We are planning a kitchen renovation and our designer has suggested moving the gas range just a little. With this new design the range hood duct would require a turn. We have gotten conflicting advice on how this affects the functionality of the hood. What do the Houzz experts think?

It decreases the funtionality of the fan, so you comensate by going to a bigger duct or higher CFM motor.

Just to clarify, you have presented 3 versions. I believe the consensus is the original version with the wood grain ( linen grain) cabinetry works the best and is most updated. The only thing that is out of place are the cabinets or "shelves" on both sides of the range hood. If this is what you need to find a solution too. I would suggest only experimenting with rendering options for these two cabinets( or shelves). This cabinet ties in all the other hard surfaces. The white is not working. It just adds another element. The black is a little dated.

If you love the marble tile, go for it! You can always buy a stainless or white range hood backsplash like this http://www.wayfair.com/Air-King-Range-Hood-Back-Splash-SP2430-AXK1174.html to slip in place when you are cooking something really messy. I have a travertine backsplash and use a stainless sheet when frying. It works great and no worries about stains ruining the stone.

I am looking for Glass Hob, Vertical Glass Chimney and Built In Oven. I am getting mixed feedback across different forums so thought to reach here (impressed with some of the pointed comments so far). I am planning to choose between Bosch, Elica, Hafele and Faber. Can anyone please help ? I need to finalize it in next 3-4 days. I am purely going by the brand name (plus my previous experience with Bosch) so preferred the following 1). Bosch Glass Hob 2). Bosch Built In Oven (though it has aluminium burner but the one with brass burner 'Hafele/Elica' has the problem of making utensils black) 3). For chimney they do not offer 60cm Filter less chimney hence thinking to choose between Hafele or Elica. Please suggest if this is the right choice. Thanks in advance

It does decrease the fan's function, but you can ask your HVAC folks to see if it is enough to worry about. Be careful about going to larger cfm fans, anything over 400 cfm requires make up air and it gets very expensive and can be a bear to accomplish.

What is the Btu level of the burners on the range? Is it a standard 30"? You will need to consider the length of the run but generally one turn isn't bad.

Most people will do fine with 400 CFM on a standard 30" average BTU range. If you do a lot of greasy, spicy or fishy foods you may find you need better than that. If you are putting in a 36" range or more you will certainly need 600 CFM or better.

Anything over 400 CFM does require make up air. In our area we have passed un-tempered make up air units by Best and Zephyr. These units are inexpensive ($200 or so) and fairly easy to install.

As always, I would suggest using a locally owned appliance store. Your appliance expert should be just that, an expert!
