Your room is lovely. The first thing I would do is paint all the walls the same color...maybe one of the lighter shades in duvet...the plates are lovely, but to me add a cluttered feel.

I actually love the plates I think they're beautiful and suit that space above your bed well as a collection. You've done a great job with your space.

On the rug, I agree that it's not quite right for the space as it just sort of floats. Typically a rug grounds a set of furniture together. While I personally like a rug under the bed so I have a warm place for my feet to land in the morning, this rug doesn't do that either. If you don't want to do a larger rug under the bed, this room can definitely go without any rug! Your floors are lovely enough to stand on their own.

I think the 'clutter' is all in the bed linens. Clean those up with a pairing of some tonal stripes and/or textured solids and lose the busy patterns and ruffles (they're also competing with your drapes). That should tone things down a bit. You have a lot of weight in the 4-poster and the armoire and the dresser. It's amazing what new linens can do. And don't buy one of those bags full of match-matchy linens, as if you can't do the legwork yourself and coordinate pieces individually. You've got the knack, that's easy to see--choose some lovely, understated, classic fabrics and everything about that room will look more sophisticated. Think tailored rather than frilly.

I agree, the room is lovely. Lighter colors will "declutter".

Your room is beautiful, I am actually trying to incorporate the blue plates and lamps in my house. What about 2 smaller rugs on each side of the beds?

You can actually add two small runners on both sides of the bed and make into a 3pc Bed Set. We actually recommend it to many of our clients as well.
When you wake up in the morning you want to get out of bed and step onto something soft and nice, and not a cold floor.
If you do go for a bed side rug, try for one the shades on the wall, but a little brighter. Would add a lot of life and color to the room since you have a corner window with beautiful sunlight coming in. The color options given by 'Warner Decor' are nice and will look great on the bed side, just look for a rug with a little pile in it and not a flat runner for your bed side.

Thanks so much for all the comments, tips and suggestions! It is helping me decide which way to go. I am thinking I will change the rug first and see what that does. I do like the options posted. I can certainly change some of my pillows and the duvet. I have always kept my classic white bedding so I can change other colors more easily. The matelasse has a pattern in it that keeps some texture. I love my plates, so I can't imagine taking them down. They seem to work better than artwork in the space and I don't think I would like it bare. Don't know what else would go there? I will also ditch the plant! Thanks!

Your room is beautiful but if you want to de clutter, I would move your plant to another room and delete the printed pillows and printed throw at the bottom of the bed. The blue on the walls and the plates are gorgeous. I like a soft rug on the floor in a bedroom, but that's a personal preference. Your bedroom is very elegant.

I like your room. Remove the plant and the bunny. I like your linens and the plates. I would, however, get a larger rug.

Hi, your bedroom is beautiful. I love the bedding. I would remove the fluffy blue pillow on the bed, pillows on the chest under window, the plant, bunny and tassel on dresser. If you want a rug, I would do a small one, maybe oval on side of bed. Very nice!
