Unfortunately, I do not have a photo for you and have been unsuccessful in downloading my sketch. I think I can explain better what I meant. Your window behind the bed cannot be centered behind the bed and presently looks a little awkward. To remedy this, I suggested framing it with wood trim and creating another "fake" window alongside of it also using wood trim to frame it. Both the fake and the real window would get two rows of louvered shutters, a top row and a bottom row. Obviously, the lovers on the fake window would remain permanently closed. They are there only to give the illusion of another window. The shutters on the bottom half of the real window would remain closed, but the louvers would open to allow light and air. The top shutter could open to access opening and closing the window but most of the time, just have the louvers open for light and air. You will have created a bank of window that your bed could be centered under and I think it would look nice. I would use a headboard with wood or metal spindles that allow the light and air from the real window to pass through, yet give you something to prop pillows against. I must say though, if you did not want to do this, I love the recently added photo by Anne dee with white drapes, gray walls and some framed pictures that really help balance the awkward window. That was a beautiful room and looks a lot easier to accomplish than my idea. From your photos, I am not quite sure you have enough wall space to do it exactly like that, but I am sure you could experiment with the concept and come up with something lovely based on that idea.

@Studio Chippan, Thank you, for your response and the reference pictures. It offered me helpful insights. I agree with you regarding the 3rd-photo. This illustrates that 3 paint colours in my living-room will not work (even if 2 of them are white!). This also means that I can no longer go with 8300/Confetti as my choice of white for walls (as much as I like it, it will dull/dim my rooms if I paint that on my ceilings as well, especially my north-facing rooms). So now, I need to find 1 single-white that can go/complement with my 2 adjacent accent walls in 8307/Quicksilver, and that can be used on my ceilings as well (and the walls and ceilings of all the other rooms). Any suggestions? So far I have sampled the following Asian/royal white(ish) shades (I’ve added my take on them beside it, but it is only my own perception of these shades): 1) Base White (the one without any tint): boring, clinical, too bright a white for walls 2) 8300 /Confetti: not too cold, not too warm, my favorite white among the ones sampled, but too dull for the ceiling 3) L104/Cotton Wool: seems to have a slight-pink-undertone(?) on my walls, too bright a white for walls 4) L109/Icy Peak: boring, slight-green-undertone(?), but might work for my walls+ceilings requirement 5) 8332/Snowflake: this is a very nice grey, but I am looking for a white (for walls+ceilings) 6) 8308/Whispering Smoke: this is a very nice grey, but I am looking for a white (for walls+ceilings) 7) 9483/Clear Sky Night: this is a nice grey, but I am looking for a white (for walls+ceilings) 8) 8299/Ice Age: this is a nice grey, but I am looking for a white (for walls+ceilings) 9) 8292/White Gold: this is too warm a white (strong pink/peach undertones!), ruled-out. Why 8307/Quicksilver, and why 2 accent walls (if I may call it that) instead of 1? This particular vertical-line of the fan-colour-deck is the best match with a wallpaper that will be applied on an exposed beam (~L:15’+15’*H:1.5’*D:4”) running along the ceiling on 2 of my living room walls. Shades along this deck-line are: 8308/Whispering-Smoke (one of the whites you suggested above, but too light a grey for accent), 8307/Quicksilver (seems like the right density for me), 0615/Silver Grey (gets too dark for me from here), 0643/Steel Grey, etc… *Disclaimer: I do not claim to be a minimalist; I am merely trying to be one. However, I did not succeed with my living room design; and now I only hope it doesn’t get out of hand and OTT.

Going with professional has its own advantages. Afterall he is pro, so he has studied more and has more experience. However is this person from the kitchen shoppee, which is giving you quotation of kitchen installation? In such cases, I have experienced that they just make boxy kitchens where they add lotsa fittings, that increases your budget. Open shelves does not need such fittings, so such are omitted...Normal door wali cabinets are less and number of drawers increased. Going on own is not a bad idea, provided you need to study it well. Note down the requirements, classify work areas and so on... In this approach , you have to go bit slower and carefully. Allow some flexibility in design, so that in future , you can alter as per the need. Sometimes we come to know the problems after few months/ years and we cant change it later. Ultimately compare between [your time+ efforts+ study+ error chances] Vs Hiring professional and go ahead accordingly.

Hi Sahil, 2 lakhs for such a huge room is a bit tight, specially when we are talking about making the furniture. The sofas alone will be an expensive investment and so will the bed and the wardrobe. Since the window openings are pretty large, either floor length curtains or roman blinds would be required in substantial quantities. Here are a few tips that may help you in cutting down the cost quite a bit - 1] Buy furniture online from sites like Pepperfry, Urban Ladder etc. They have good quality stuff at a reasonable price. You can order the bed, side tables, sofas, pouffes, couches, chairs, study table etc. This way you will always know what you are paying for and also always have the budget in mind. 2] Invest in coloured walls instead of wallpapers. You can always add wallpaper subsequently say when you want to give your room an uplift. 3] Have the carpenter make your TV unit and wardrobes since these would have to be customized. Invest in good quality laminate (it saves the cost of polishing too). Go for solid colours or satin finish wooden textures. If you are not fond of laminates, you can go for recon veneers. These are pretty cheap i.e. around Rs. 60/ sqft. but require polishing. However, veneers look better than laminates any day. 4] Add a personal touch with photographs, paintings, posters and other items of your interest. Dedicate a wall to these to create interest. 5] Try using old loose furniture like tables and chairs which you can retouch to save money. 6] Keep adding new stuff as you go to complete the look. Never hurry, complete only those items that are a priority. Then when your budget permits you can keep adding to it. For eg. have the bed, curtains and cupboards in place first. You can then opt for the TV and the pouffes/couch. Sofas, study tables, side tables and chairs come later. This way you wont lose track of anything. All the best! Regards, RnD Atelier
