I love the idea of the mango house...but I don't like the color of the door in the photo. I would paint it turquoise, like the sky. Great little place - lucky you!

thanks, the spectrum of comments pretty much echoes my own considerations….the community is very eclectic…don't know if anyone is familiar with Maple Beach, Point Roberts, Washington…No one lives there full time so I think it is ok to have fun with color….My concern with dark brown was that the house would sort of "disappear"… You can't see it but there is a huge maple in front of the deck that we built a sand dune around. We put our beach chairs on the sand dune for happy hour..

Perhaps you might want to consider color stain instead of paint, it would allow the wood to show through, but you can still have some color.

The neighborhood behind you guys looks pretty traditional to me. Could you be happy with a mango door, trim and Adirondack chairs? A charcoal stain on the house might not be so extreme, yet good looking.

I'm not against colorful homes. There's bright, and then there's too bright. I wouldn't go with persimmon for the whole house. The photo you provided has lots of white trim which offsets the orange, but your house doesn't have that much trim (unless you were planning on adding some, which I think would look good no matter what color you ultimately choose, but even so, I wouldn't go with persimmon for the whole house, as it's still too bright).

To repeat what @nwduck said, the other homes in the neighborhood don't appear to all be done in the bright colors, and so yours would stand out too too much. I like @deco's idea of the bright door, if you really love a bright color. For the rest of the house, any more subdued color would be fine, along with additional trim around the windows, and assuming that your siding color coordinates with your roofing color.

Lots of good points…our house already sticks out like a sore thumb, being 60's modern…i was thinking charcoal grey originally, but we really have no trim. The front door is a glass sliding door. Maybe I just need to go charcoal and add large mango or red house numbers on the front and get bright fabric for the outdoor furniture and pots…

How about a very pale watery green/blue shade (hey, that's specific isn't it? lol) with mango doors? That would give you the beach feel, but bring in the mango in very specific areas. I also think the pale blue/green would work with the dark stain on the trim. Just an idea!

The siding on this house is actually a deep olive green, but you can see how a pale turquoise goes with the dark trim.




Somewhere I think I have a really good photo of the color I have in mind but I will have to look later.

Heck... go with mango and lime!
