I don't know where you live but if you are near a lowes or Home Depot , I know, curse words, but they will do a free drawing to your liking and then you can take it to a contractor to get you whatever you like . At least you can get a free drawing and cabinet quote to see if you can afford the project or make cutbacks on materials. Just an idea?

The Home Depot charges a 100$ for drawings of a kitchen and, unfortunately there is no guarantee it will be done properly. If you are really interesting to do your kitchen right, save the money, time, avoid mistakes, stresses and frustrations apply to pros. They will supply you a package of professional sketches, recommendations and extremely useful information.

In my own experience, Home Depot (in Canada) does not charge for kitchen drawings. however, I am not comfortable saying "go get work done for free and then hire somebody else". What's more, I have found that you can purchase a Home Depot kitchen at far less cost than through specialty kitchen suppliers. But, as Marina say, your best bet--even if working with Home Depot or its equivalent--is to find a designer that can help you get the most out of the expenditures you make. There are many variables, but in a recent kitchen, we saved 25000+ over an equivalent designer kitchen with a good design concept that could be created out of lesser cost pieces, assembled to look custom. And, if going with any kind of box or contract-build type supplier, remember to build in time to fix errors and expect to use both the installer and a carpenter to achieve the custom look.

On average in New York , Thomasville cabinets are going to run you $20,000. In The New York area it is free for Home Depot to do a drawing. I am not suggesting to use anyone and not hire them but the associates at Lowes and Home Depot are happy to be working and do not get commissions. You are correct in saying they may not be perfect, but at least you are but into cardiac arrest when I tell you how much a custom , high quality kitchen will cost them.
