please introduce a color to this room

this is our bedroom.there is lots of brown and wood in this room.with keeping the same furniture and room colour please help me with how can i introduce some color to this room?like red or orange i was thinking,by changing decor and all..i really like the brown color and wood just help with decor...

like some wall hanging,paintings or artifacts and lamos..

i am also planning to hang a black and white picture of fmaily above bed!!

Hi Manvisudan. Some ideas for you. I've picked up on a coral/red theme, but the first thing I think you need to do is introduce cream into the room by changing your curtains -- the ones you have are beautiful but the colours are off for the room, or they seem to be on my screen. So if you have cream curtains, and change your bedding to cream instead of white, it will quiten things down a bit by toning better with your walls. I see that the room is small and cramped, but do try to simplify a bit. I'm suggesting a frosting film on the glass doors of your dressing table so that the lotions and potions aren't on show, and some simplification of your shelves -- I've given an example on the shelf with the Japanese ladies who would show up much better if you flanked them with two small cream bowls.

Then you would be ready for a lamp and a cushion with your colour (which is also in the Japanese ladies), a simple rug that tones with the corals and the walls, and -- if you have room for it -- a piece of art that picks up both the colour and the browns, tying them together. All the things I've used come from Overstock except the cream bowls, which I drew in.

Red or orange would be fighting with the furniture you have. Here is one idea with soft blue /gray.

Dear Balaji, Tried and tested colour combinations that make wood work stand out will be in contrast to dark brown. You can choose reflective colours like pale yellow, off white.. Hi Rakhi , You can probably follow this : Furnishings : If you wish to retain the Sofa, you can highlight it with bright silk / cotton silk bright colored cushions and throws. Change the curtains to neutrals. Walls : You can also go neutral on the wall colors ( off whites , ivory , beige or light grey) This opens up your possibilities and choices with furnishings and other add - ons. If possible you can get the exposed brick wall done on of the walls ( the entrance console wall for example) and have lot of interesting frames on it ) Artwork / frames : You can add lots of art work frames ( on the sofa wall ) of various style and types ( like in the grey wall pic attached. ) You can even add sari frames like in the pics attached above. would specially advise to add artwork frames on the entrance wall to hide the MCP (electrical board) or even a nice mirror. Plants : Please add lot of greens , it really lights up the space like no other artificial prop can. You get lot of low maintenance indoor plants they brighten up the space. Please note : You should first choose whether you wish to go for a traditional look or a modern or even a blend of the the two and then choose artwork and furnishings accordingly. I really don't think there's a colour fight going on in my board ... ? I think it's a matter of getting precisely the right colour, which I grant is not easy. I think a coral/red would work, especially if there is a piece of art or cushion to tie the palette together, and only if cream is used to settle the room down first. Manvisudan, if you like the idea but the red sounds a bit scarey, you could do much the same thing with a soft green or a soft greyish blue. But again, use the cream -- and I should have mentioned that I covered the brown pattern on your bed for the good reason that I think it would be very hard to bring in a distinct colour of any sort with that there. It is too dominant and limiting. A light neutral brown, plain or with a very simple pattern, might work. I'll see if I can find anything to illustrate.

Hi, good morning from here. I mean the fabric I posted above to be an example of the kind of colour you could use for your bedcovers; they could be plain provided the fabric is a bit interesting, with a bit of texture. Alternatively, an unobtrusive pattern. The thing is to find something that will blend with both your wood and your walls. That with cream sheets and pillows, and a throw cushion that brings in the coral (or whatever colour you use) -- that's where the cream and coral should be -- and you're all set, I think. No reason not to use the coral on your dressing table seat, I just wouldn't put it on a big area, like curtains or bed.

With either of the other two colours I posted you could do things in exactly the same way, because they are both quite bright.

For a suggested rug colour, see my collage above. Hover your cursor on it and check the bottom left -- a simple rug that's almost exactly the colour of your walls. I think that would be good.

I hope this makes sense. I've just woken up (late) and am going back to bed because I had a rotten night. :(

We have a lot of that orangey wood and have paired it with Dulux Mondrian Blue paint. It works really well. A seascape picture and you feel you are on holiday. Check out Pantone 's 2014 colour of the year for similar.
