First you need to get a bigger T.V and some surround sound equipment , a cabinet to house all the wires parts etc., blackout blinds for the windows and some comfy seating for at least as many people as you have living there. This will never be an actual home theatre as you can not close it completely but it can be quite good with some imagination.

Firstly, one can play a lot with furnishings if you are staying in a rented apartment. those white walls are nothing but a clean canvas and you can really use colors through your furnishings like cushions , upholstery, curtains , rugs etc to add colors . Secondly , instead of wall shelves etc add small side tables on emptycorners you get etc which gives you platform surfaces to display your nick knacks.. You get many freestanding display shelves online and in market where you don't have to use screws in wall. :)

Hi Maam/Sir, I would recommend you to share a better perspective pic of your room where the ceiling is also visible because if a room does not have enough of natural lighting then some artificial effect like a false ceiling treatment would really give a great boost to the look and feel of your space. I would also suggest you to follow a concept like i can see there are a lot of varied colorscheme happening in your room so changing a curtain will not be much help. You should find the right patterns maybe like adding some pastels or i can see that some red or maroon color is involved in your room so try to match the lighter version of these elements. This is a fabulous room. It oozes a bygone charm that you would lose by adding false ceilings and tube lights. Please don't! Go all out to preserve this magnificent floor and the beautiful furniture. That mirror is superb, as is the old painting. Keep the wall colour as is and change the upholstery after polishing and keeping the beautiful wooden furniture. The upholstery is mismatchedat present. But the different styled armchairs look very comfortable. Keep them. No modern furniture will give you such comfort. When you re upholster, refrain from choosing firm foam and such nonsense. It is far better to have good quality down or cotton, which moulds to the body shape. Invest in a high quality traditional patterned Persian or Kashmiri carpet for a restrained stroke of colour. Your upholstery should pick up colours from this carpet. So should the curtains. Please never even consider vinyl blinds, horizontal and vertical. If you tamper with this room and remodel it to be 'modern'- you will lose a treasure.
