Manipalgoyal: I like your basic plan. It is well thought out....What does the top floor look like? The only thing that I would do differently from my very "Western" perspective would be to move the rear right bedroom upstairs and open up the back courtyard to the kitchen area. I would create a "great room / kitchen area with doors that open both to the front courtyard and to the back. This allows for good cross ventilation to help keep the house cool and comfortable on a hot day. It also provides easy access to the rear yard area without having to walk through a bedroom. Now all of the precious outdoor space is easy to use. The other element that I would introduce would be an atrium (or an opening in the floor) all the way up to the second floor with openable windows high up on the second floor to allow hot air to escape to the top of the house and out (since hot air rises) This is called the "chimney effect" and is another way to keep the house well ventilated. Of course this is how it has been done in hot climate countries for years, so you might be familiar with this technique already. Even if you don't change it, your floor plan is very nicely laid out. I would be happy to help you answer any additional questions that you might have. I do have a few questions for you: 1. Where is the laundry room? Is it in the storage space? This does seem a little narrow. How wide is it? You might want to work on how this space actually lays out. Is there a sink in this space too? 2. Why do you have such small openings to the outside from the drawing room and the rear bedrooms? Are they doors or windows? Wouldn't you wnat a door with an openable window with a screen adjacent so that you could have ventilation at night without having the door open? 3. How will you lay out the kitchen? Who is doing the cooking in your household? Is cooking a family event or is it done by a helper? You either want a bigger more open kitchen (Western design) or a more private kitchen (Asian design) Or a combination of both.......To me this is the most important part of the house where the family gathers and hangs out..... I am so happy to see you here! I will have to go back and see if i can retrieve my posts... thought I would make them into a little book for my daughter, with photos. Quick run-down on the bathroom (not travels, no time) - The kitchen has a rather elegant sliding door with beveled glass panels. Painted white, since this was the original colour. GD's new bathroom has the doors I had picked earlier; i thought of polishing them but decided sprayed automobile paint (on a resin primer) would wear better. Especially since it is such a small bathroom, and she is so splashy. I have this finish in my kitchen and it has lasted 15 years now. A tad chipped here and there, but only needs a wipe down once a week. Same finish for the balcony doors, also split like the bathroom. We have a new wardrobe, a study table with built-in shelves, and a small chest of drawers for her odds and ends. I want to re-tile the tiny balcony, more as a little statement. Currently we are looking at Portuguese tiles, though I did think a mosaic with a funky cat might be nice. Let me see the costing. The room will be painted a neutral adobe, with bright white woodwork and an off-white ceiling. This means she can go wild with cushions and covers. Other changes in the flat; We have changed the glass in the master bedroom and living room from small cramped panes to a single pane for each section with a 1" bevel all round. Doubles the cost of the glass, but looks so elegant! The air-conditioning is being re-located. The compressors were all mounted in the bedroom and living room balconies, which looked terrible and meant the balconies (very narrow, only 30" deep) couldn't be used for anything. Not even plants. So they are being moved so that the compressors can be mounted at the rear of the building. two down, one to go. Now we can put in some nice plants, fishtail palms etc. The kitchen counter on one side came out intact and will be reused elsewhere. I am planning overhead storage, cupboards, and a draining cupboard for plates and glasses. Right now there is no dish washer, though a place is earmarked, but for now I will put in a cupboard with steel racks for cups, glasses and plates, all hidden behind pressed glass doors. This is all in the planning stage.... Pictures in a little while, they are mostly on my ipad and don't transfer well to the mac. They come without numbers... so I have to rename the or something. Somebody tell me how to do this!

A few suggestions based upon your lower photo, the fourth I guess. a. If you had the wall built, ask the guys that built it to perform your wishes. If it came with the house, call the former owner, whose name is on your deed. b. If the former suggestion is a dead end, let's analyze before we plan. You want to have a space for cooking and dining outdoors. This is such a beautiful yard, it does not deserve a portable BBQ unit exposed when not on fire, so put it in the garage as soon as it is cool. If you are going full hog for a builtin BBQ facility, perhaps it can be built against an existing wall, and just the dining area then needs the increased space. A 6' wide round table, requires about 12-14' for itself and the surrounding chairs and service area. Will you be happy with only a 15' or even a 20' section of wall moved? c. Remove the plants from the area that you plan to usurp, and about 5' beyond, and rent a sod cutter to remove all of the lawn from the vehicle entry point to the lower curved wall, by the palm, and stockpile it in shade, if possible. d. Have the contractor saw a vertical cut in the wall at the points of removal. Measure the distance of the plant bed to back wall. Cut the front bed wall that is to be removed with two sections of that overall bed dimention, so they can be placed as end walls for the two sections of bed that are no longer continuous. e. Have the contractor dig up the wall, and cut the two pieces to remain so they are free of the wall to be dumped. He will remove the existing soil from the bed. Modify any irrigation that exists, and then install the two wall slabs to their new duty locations, attach them to the remaining walls, backfill and replant as required.. f. The next step is to cultivate the compaced earth in the lawn area, rake it and resod. If the dining/BBQ areas are to be a dining terrace, you might wait until the sod is reestablished, say another month, before initiating that construction, as you don't want the sod to remain in a pile for long, or you will have to buy new. If it is to be a flagstone terrace, you can have that material delivered and stockpiled where the bed used to be, while the wall crew is just leaving. Will that fill your need. Give this post to the contractor so he can take measurements, and provide you an estimate overnight. Summer cookouts have already begun. Looks like we will miss the 4th of July bash.

Hi Nishi, Beautiful furniture and a very cute cosy nest you have. To begin with replace your existing coffee table with a hard wood simple coffee table. Replace your cushions with an assortment of pink, turquoise and golden yellow in different sizes and shapes, this will add some brightness to the room.Replace the pictures on the wall with a big mirror as per the wall size and add a nice frame to it. On the shelf on the picture wall place the candle stands currently on the centre table. The stools can be replaced with a nice upholstered ottoman bench in a printed fabric as sofa is plain. Cover the entry door with curtains as well so that it gives an illusion of a single wall behind. Since the wall behind the bench is already textured do not put anything on the wall. Remove the white bench there, instead put two big white teracotta pots there of different height and put bamboos on it. Finally put a blue/brown shaggy rug below the coffee table to complete the look. Hope you find the suggestions useful. Also you could put a few glass shelfs on the wall behind the 3 seater and place all your small knick knacks on displayLike how I have done on my wall
