Most people use IS710 marine grade plywood that is boiling water resistant for their kitchen cabinets. The inside and outsides of these plywood is laminated with selected colors either by machine press or manual. Even in IS710 grade plywood there are few price grades depending on the species of wood used.
Yes, Plywood is good for kitchen. You should use waterproof plywood for kitchen. BWP Grade is the best and BWR Grade is the second best. You may use brands like Greenply or Centuryply for the same.
I have been using BWR (boiling water resistant) Greenply Gold (19, 12 and 6 mm thick depending on end use) over the last couple of years. But there are others good brands too which are slightly cheaper. _ Raajply, Century, and more economical grades of Greenply. I find blockboard easier to work with than plywood, because there is less chance of bending
