Since the sofa is of darker shade go for a light shade of area rug/ carpet. Look for low pile carpet which are easy to clean....do not go in for the fluff ones. Buy a carpet big enough to cover the sitting area....at least 8*10. Make sure the front legs of the sofa comes on the carpet....place a large coffee table or even two medium size u can combine and place together.
