You have very high walls so I would do a tall wainscot on the walls to create some warmth and decoration at the same time. Take everything off the walls and remove all the small little shelfs and decorations, leave only the big furniture. Then start over with the wall decor. Need some bold statements to create some balance and interest but not clutter. Add some larger shelves if you need shelves, something hefty and interesting. It's hard to see wall color and how it works with the upholstery. Do you need all that furniture in the space? I would thin it out. Remove one of the sofas and place the chairs across from the other one. Open up the space in front of the window. Add a sofa table behind a sofa along the wall and decorate it with a couple large vintage style lamps with some accent color (pull a color from the rug that you like) on each end and tablescape the middle of the table. Add a huge mirror above Bring that same accent color into the space with some bookshelf decor but not cluttery. I am not a fan of the drapes; something more neutral in a grommet panel style that can easily be opened. Hang them at the ceiling. They will look really nice because they create nice gentle folds if the fabric is a bit heavy for weight. You will need space to walk and for your feet if you turn the chairs around - if you put a divider in you will block the view from the dining table out to the balcony - and thus make the kitchen and dining room both have no view ! So if you keep it open, the natural light can get through !

I've inherited this house and started some renovation work. My problem is how to decorate the living cum dining area. The colour palette in my mind is beige and orange as The highlight. On wall 1 I would like to put the tv. But I don't how how to arrange my chairs and sofa and the dining table which we r yet to buy. The 4th wall shows the kitchen door. This room will be mainly used as a family room and to entertain very close friends. As we have a formal sitting area downstairs. Please help me with your valuable suggestions. Hello Rachna, We have gone through your posts. Please clarify the room size is it 12x8 or 16x9.3 . Let's start from bottom line, what is the budget that you can spare now for the makeover. A lot of remodelling would depend upon the budget .BTW, I really appreciate your honesty about the affordability ! Coming back to the topic, I believe your TV unit is placed in a good position but other units will require movement. Please do confirm the size.
