Hi , I think if ever you want to sell this property in the future - you will need to follow Vastu guidelines in the design at this point - otherwise this may hinder resale. Assuming that the architect has followed this and the plan is set - I would suggest you use colours and artwork to create the look that you are after ... Also consider shelving going across the full window wall - this will give you extra storage and also somewhere to grow herbs etc in front of the window - maybe even have a deeper shelf at worktop height and a stool infront of the window ? If you do a picture search on elements that you would like to add - ie kitchen "turquoise accessories" or kitchen "gold" etc you will get lots of inspirational images to help you get an attractive kitchen ... I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

@Dar - We hired a builder and he gave us this blueprint according to our requirements. We started constructing with the foundation and then after foundation the real problem came into picture. Now i'm worried about the front elevation only. We have already decided to make the kitchen open n combine it with dining hall. As per your suggestions we can combine the stair hall which is in our hands. Let me tell you the most important thing, we are constructing each and every room according to "Vastu Shastra". So we are forced to place rooms according to that. We can't change the position of the rooms. I hope interior decoration will help us to flourish our home.

Vastu principleas were initially important for temple building. Over long peaceful and prosperous period, it was incorporated to home building. Traditionally- single floor and detached setup. Historically, there was no toilet, no bathrooms and stairs in homes and so no mention of it. All the principles told now are merely an attempt to incorporate those per initial house vastu principles. I am vastu literate and my homes follow those principles as much as possible+ whatever I could from feng sui. I think you should follow any principles(vastu/feng sui etc) if you could. If you could not, there is no reason to get dishearted, home is where the heart is. If you want to build vastu or feng sui compliant building, always engage a vastu consultant who may charge just pennies. Dont believe on so called self made experts. You really need someone who had studied and renowned expert. google it. Thanks
