The style of the wainscoting / moldings help make a space traditional or contemporary. Same theory applies to a coffered ceiling.

With your original pictures - I agree with larger rug. But I don't agree with comments suggesting the rooms are monochromatic. They are lively indeed. I think you are just missing some accessories! Art work on the empty walls - even just a single large dramatic piece is in order. In the bedroom on the white wall, in the living space behind the sofa, in the greenish bedroom behind the two beds. Those are instant areas where you can improve. But I think your spaces are lovely and well put together. Also I agree with the comment about table lamps - some of those would really add something, and your coffee table looks so empty - maybe just one gorgeous bowl, or stack some books. These rooms are 90% done in my opinions, just need a few finishing touches. Some of my rooms come out like this because the clients are not willing to pay for those last few finish items or feel they can do that part themselves...

Tell us more. How many do you need to seat on a daily basis? I agree that there is too many matching pieces, but even so, it can look nice. Since all the furniture is lined up and matching, I think a large area rug in the center and ONE large and long (custom) coffee table will bring all of the perimeter furniture "together". Mismatched (yet coordinated) toss pillows will make the furniture seem "seamless". It won't look "designer" but it can look different and a neat space for a lot of people to gather.

Hi Sru, Mixing two diametrically opposite design styles is very difficult and often the outcome is unsatisfactory. We would suggest that you choose either one of the two. If you opt for traditional you can make use of the following tips : - A traditionally styled home or space need not have too many intricately carved elements or antiques. A few iconic ones scattered throughout do the trick. You may always underplay the rest of the furniture whilst highlighting a single chair or you may highlight a wall either by using a colour or wallpaper and keep the rest of the walls neutral. This way you don't end up with a gaudy design. - Invest in a good piece of furniture such as your bed, or dining table set or sofa. Try Lajpat Nagar market in Delhi or Chor Bazar, Raj Company in Mumbai. All the rest items such as tv units, cabinets, wardrobes can be made in a modular fashion and finished with veneer to maintain continuity. Avoid laminates wherever possible. (some of our projects elaborating the concept) If you opt for a modern design you can make use of the following tips : - The exterior of the house needs to blend with the interiors. Hence, you may have to rework on it. - When designing a modern space, a lot depends on the furniture and decor you are going for. It has to be simple, elegant and yet stand out as a statement piece. So invest likewise. Rugs, good lighting fixtures and figurines are always good options. - For other rooms you may use modular furniture or go all out and buy iconic items that make an impression. Use antique furniture with modern patterns for a quirky look. A mix of decor items and accessories may come quite handy to complete the look.
