We get the same dry patches that are caused by grubs here in the Pacific Northwest. We use a three pronged cultivating tool to pull out the dead grass, reseed and put peat moss over it to protect the seed. It's a chronic problem, and we've been dealing with it for years now. I don't know that there is a solution without applying killer chemicals to the soil.

Hello Gopa, You can do a partition with plywood on wooden frame. Go for a door with hinges as there is no benefit of a sliding door in terms of light . What is your intent for having a openable vs sliding door. Please be aware that after making an additional room the living room will look dark and long/ narrow. You can have a transome on the door in case privacy is not much of an issue. You will however have to depend on artificial lighting in case a full partition is done.
