It sounds like your underlying concern is how to make better use of the living room area. Removing the wall will give you a greater visual impact of the staircase from the living area but does not necessarily make the living space more usable. You might wish to consider how you are using the living space itself, that is, the furniture arrangement. Perhaps, you might want to consider spreading the furniture out by placing the TV on the left side wall, sofa/ couches in the middle of the room facing each other with a coffee table in the middle....i've attached a rough pencil sketch as an idea....hope this helps...

Hi Abdul, the first thing NOT to do is panic! Collect your thoughts and analyze the problem. A huge component to architecture is learning how to problem-solve. Try doing some bubble diagrams to get a feel for what types of spaces you need to design. You don't necessarily have to know what they are going to look like yet. Just get a feel for what needs to be accounted for and programmed (i.e. number of rooms, lobby space, laundry room, housekeeping space, front of house, back of house, etc.) Next, I'm not sure what your concepts are or what year you're in, but try keeping the form simple if you're having trouble with it physically. If you have problems sketching ideas out, take what you think is your strongest concept and build some sketch models out of chipboard or something cheap and that you can work with quickly. This helped me out tremendously when I was in school. Remember that the site and context of the project should always be in the back of your mind when thinking about the concept for your design. Is it located in a city or the country? Does it overlook a lake or body of water? Does it sit on a hill or is the site flat? These are some of the questions to think about that could impact your design. Finally, nobody is going to really be able to tell you exactly what to do. Many architects have differing opinions, philosophies, and styles when it comes to design; so there isn't going to be a "right" answer. Whatever you decide to come up with, make sure you believe in it, and pursue it with passion! Hope this helps you out a little bit and best of luck!

There are a number of factors that will dictate the design of your house. The first step is to visit the local building department to find out the restrictions for your lot. Do you need to set back the house from the property lines? Is there a maximum site coverage that the jurisdiction allows? For example, in San Clemente, California you can only cover 50% of your lot with your house. Do you need to include parking on your site? Most cities in the USA require 2 parking spaces on the site. The shape of the lot and the access to the lot as well as any potential views, and even the location of the sun and the prevailing winds will impact your design. Find out the information that I listed above and post it with a dimensioned site plan and you may get some great design suggestions. Vastu principleas were initially important for temple building. Over long peaceful and prosperous period, it was incorporated to home building. Traditionally- single floor and detached setup. Historically, there was no toilet, no bathrooms and stairs in homes and so no mention of it. All the principles told now are merely an attempt to incorporate those per initial house vastu principles. I am vastu literate and my homes follow those principles as much as possible+ whatever I could from feng sui. I think you should follow any principles(vastu/feng sui etc) if you could. If you could not, there is no reason to get dishearted, home is where the heart is. If you want to build vastu or feng sui compliant building, always engage a vastu consultant who may charge just pennies. Dont believe on so called self made experts. You really need someone who had studied and renowned expert. google it. Thanks
