1. Number of windows and doors should be even when summed up. That is one principle.

When you translate into modern architecture, they transform into cut-outs. Hence, however you design, the number of cut-out elements should be odd. That includes windows, doors, stairwell openings, central courtyard, vents and chutes, design cut-outs etc.

That applies to all buildings irrespective of their styles because only with even symmetry, you could achieve a greater flux of cross-ventilation.

2. Other significant points to consider are ratio of door to window size, orientation, placement of furniture wrt windows and doors, main entrance vastu etc.
