Hello all, we are having a large window in the kitchen so I am confused in placing chimney and hob. please help me and it's a small kitchen so need some space utilization tips too!

Shravani, Chimney on the window idea has its own challenges. First is how to hang the chimney while still keeping the window shutters operable. For daily usage the suction of the chimney is affected if the window is open.

If your window is at sufficient height from the hob then it will be better to skip the chimney and use your window for ventilation but much of it depends on the wind flow.

Please share the floor plan for further comments.

Is there already a chimney in place? The space looks very small, so consider a thin stone veneer and a small, electric fireplace for the look without the need for major construction. See Houzz photos under "electric fireplace" for ideas of style, incorporating storage.

Hi Himani, change the washing area a little. instead of 5' sink in the lower most side make it on the window wall, it'll accommodate the sink as well as one small unit for storing used as well as clean utensils and some more space for any cleaning work. About the kitchen ottta, it seems you want it as per vastu. As per vastu the burner should be on the south corner of the east wall, that's the exact agni sthaan. Your kitchen size is at par, please tell me how many members are there in your family so that I can guide you accordingly.

Kratika, You have sufficient ventilation if you want to have your chimney there next to windows. Suction of Chimneys will however be substantially impacted because of wind . You can keep them closed when the Chimney is on. Alternatively, you may do your hob and chimney on the adjacent wall. Nitin Cornerstone Designs, Bangalore

Shravani,

Given a choice we would like to close the existing door to the utility and provide it from next to bathroom.

This shall give you sufficient U shape space with bigger counter and hob and chimney places.

Don't buy a chimney. Buy a good exhaust fan and fix it in the space provided above the window. Problem solved.

Hello there, you have got ample space between walls which are void of top storage units. Try installing the hob near the microwave and use the existing duct to cover the chimney vent.

The only civil work involved is drilling a hole for the chimney in the wall area below lintel beam near the window. The only interior work added is an extra small top unit for covering the chimney .

You could also install an exhaust fan into the window directly. It is more powerful and cheaper than a chimney and well suited for Indian Kitchens.
