AllI want is a touch of classic look to my furniture - Mumbai
Everywhere I went in Mumbai,, even some expensive 24 crore apartments, I see only basic furniture designs in their homes, except that the richer people have imported furniture pieces, but those pieces in their homes, if made locally, are just basic no-frill designs like A and B below. All I am trying to get is a simple modification to make it look look like iC. Either the carpenters I tried have wanted to dissuade me from choosing that design or they say it takes a lot of work and can be prohibitively expensive. Is it that even simple moldings like the ones in this design are not available here in India or am I contacting wrong ill equipped carpenters ? Can you suggest any good carpenters (I live in Andheri area)?

I can find this in Mumbai (A)
and I can get this also (B)
but could not get someone who says he can do this (C ) when it is the exact same thing as A with moldings nailed in and painted. How can I find these moldings and a carpenter who has done that much more than the basic furniture in Mumbai? I can do away with the curved design at the bottom due to workmanship concerns.

Comments (138)Leather sofas can really dominate the room and can give an overall cold feeling. I would add some earthy elements, like a wood coffee table with glass or metal. Go to Restoration Hardware's website and look at their sofa room scenes. And I'm sorry I think the art is too harsh for the room. That's all your eye goes to in the room. too overpowering. I would look for something softer or maybe a cool mirror and I would add color to the room with pillows and some colorful lamps. I also think woven blinds would look great. They add warmth and give a finished look. The color of your window treatments should contrast your wall color a bit, not match it or else it starts to look generic and blah.. Comments (46)Hi Nishi, Beautiful furniture and a very cute cosy nest you have. To begin with replace your existing coffee table with a hard wood simple coffee table. Replace your cushions with an assortment of pink, turquoise and golden yellow in different sizes and shapes, this will add some brightness to the room.Replace the pictures on the wall with a big mirror as per the wall size and add a nice frame to it. On the shelf on the picture wall place the candle stands currently on the centre table. The stools can be replaced with a nice upholstered ottoman bench in a printed fabric as sofa is plain. Cover the entry door with curtains as well so that it gives an illusion of a single wall behind. Since the wall behind the bench is already textured do not put anything on the wall. Remove the white bench there, instead put two big white teracotta pots there of different height and put bamboos on it. Finally put a blue/brown shaggy rug below the coffee table to complete the look. Hope you find the suggestions useful. Here is how I wanted the drawers to look.
Here is how carpenter from my locality (not too cheap a neighborhood, called Lokhandwala) tried to make, A you can see, he tried to chisel the wood to get this design. Obviously had no clue. Finally he gave up, Brought the unfinished desk in with an excuse to show me how it is coming along, left it with me and never showed his face again.
So I tried an expensive carpenter, who did some work at an apartment on NapeanSea Road, a very expensive locality and paid him what he wanted. He too did not know how to make this. All he did was out a moulding in the center to make it look .as though it were similar to what I wanted. At least his work was clean, except that he represented that the top was teakwood while I lter found out that it is mango wood, but he too did not know how to get this done.
I hope one of you can suggest a carpenter with some skill.
