Bathroom redo went wrong! how do I fix it?
We have a small, high-ceilinged bathroom off the master bedroom. It was previously all cement. I thought I'd perk it up and give it a feeling of being in nature by painting the ceiling a dark jade color and the walls mossy green.
But the colors showed up SO MUCH brighter on the walls than on my swatches (I painted A4s and held them up in the light)!! It's not at all restful on the eye, and I find myself avoiding it--which was the opposite of my goal, as this is the only bathroom we have with a tub. My boyfriend asked me, "Were you going for the feel of bathing inside a pint of Baskin-Robbins mint chocolate chip ice cream?"
Is there any way to fix this without repainting everything? I was thinking of painting the wall facing the window silvery grey or even a pale brown. But what if I faux-painted over one or all walls to add texture? Or painted the walls a different color 1/3 of the way up? I do not have the capacity to add more lighting to this bathroom right now, unfortunately. I really want to make this bathroom feel more restful!

Comments (32)I strongly second One Plan's idea about looking for another architect. If this one is not motivated, all the fame in the world is not going to help. An alternative approach to finding an architect is to find some good contractors who have built things you like. Ask them for architects' names. Make sure they work in your price range. In the meantime, you can find out from your local building department what the set back and height restrictions are. Are you required to build parking areas or garage space, what kind of airspace restrictions do you have for neighbors' views and sunlight, that kind of thing. Comments (66)OK... but the wire wont be lower as it is fixed now. The wire in the pics below is the wall facing each other. They were leveled on equal height but the beam on one wall makes it seem a little above. But i think you guys are absolutely right that up and down lights wont look good there. Comments (9)Hi Karuna, Here are a few pros and cons of using large tiles on walls - Pros - 1] They have lesser joints to fill and hence give the space a larger look and feel. 2] They look like stone cladding if installed properly. Cons - 1] They are costly as far as their rate/square foot and labour cost is concerned. 2] They require epoxy grout / adhesive instead of the regular cement grout which usually adds to the cost. 3] Since they are huge in size, they are not suitable for small areas due to the hassle of cutting the tiles manually to fir the size. 4] There is a high possibility of warp age in the tiles due to their size and because of this either their joints wont match or the surface may look undulated. Hence, it is recommended that large tiles be used for floors instead of walls. We would suggest to go in for the smaller sized tiles like 2'x2' or less for a more aesthetic look. Just apply tiles between the kitchen cabinets and avoid doing so near the peninsula. It would make the kitchen look lighter and brighter and not like a bathroom. Also for the back splash you may go for any of the following tile options - 1] Mosaic 2] Ceramic tiles/ Vitrified tiles 3] Natural stone such as granite All the best!
