I would consider putting cabinets on the short wall where the utility wall is. Have your stove there centered on the area. Move the sink so it is centered on the long wall where the cooktop is now. Put the fridge on the end run of cabinets closest to the dining table. That will give you an L shape kitchen with a nice work triangle. If you have your heart set on an island remove all the wall cabinets and install a large island. This is not the style of your kitchen but it does show the layout I described above. L shape cabinetry with stove on short end, sink in the middle with DW to right of sink with cabinet above it for dish storage and the refridgerator on the end run so it is out of work triangle and conveniet to the dining area for serving or work triangle for prep and cooking. Island can be any style you desire. L shape with island and open across from island; you might consider this layout if you desire an island. Something like this?

Congrats on getting closer to your dream home. There are a few glitches and the corrected plan is attached. Main problem seems to be lack of natural light to the dining and living; introduction of a courtyard will bring in light and act as a visual link between the kitchen and other living spaces creating interesting viewpoints and play of light. The handwash is now tucked away from plain view; the toilet cutouts can be a glamorous light washed courtyard instead. North direction is not provided but we guess from the front door and gas hob direction that east is towards the porch, so why is the pooja diety made to face west? Arrangement of toilet fixtures is also corrected so that the shower can be curtained/glass partitioned off to avoid spill on to the rest of the dry areas of the toilet. Good luck!

Hello Ms Vijaya Yes, I was referring to the old post wherein you gave the details of your requirement. But it is somehow missing in the feed now. Installing a chimney (T shaped one) shouldn't be an issue even if you have a window. You could ask the carpenter to take a vertical support plank (of 18 mm ply) from the wall just above the window. Just to not let that support plank hanging, the bottom of the plank should be fixed to the grill of the window. In this way, you do not have to compromise on the ventilation from that particular window. Make sure dimensions of the plank are aligned with the hood of the chimney and also the height at which it has to be fixed. Something like below. Backsplash gives a splendid look to the kitchen as well as it is easy to maintain. You can also have digital prints to suit your taste, instead of a plain one. The negative sides of a glass backsplash are that it is relatively expensive and prone to shattering. Few things to bear in mind are before going ahead with glass backsplash - the electrical points and any other fixtures on the dado wall should be decided along with the dimensions as provisions have to be made for that in the glass before toughening it. Stick the glass to a ply panel and do not fix it using studs. Now coming to the overall design keeping in mind the aesthetic appeal, below are my assumptions: 1. West facing flat. 2. Your sink tap is on the East wall, near to the toilet. 3. Provision of pooja unit is not required in the kitchen. 4. Crockery to be placed in a separate unit near dining. 5. Kitchen should have maximum storage capacity. A look of a kitchen is decided by parameters like color combination, lighting, quality and type of the shutter material. In the below edited pic, I have given the possible spots for fridge, sink, breakfast unit, platform. You can have two L shaped plaforms (in red) along all the four walls. The placement of sink is indicated by orange boxes and you can opt for either of the position. It is not suitable on the East platform as it will be very close to the cooking range. Never have the sink at the extreme end of a platform, it will impede your movement near the sink and the space underneath is partially lost. The fridge's position can be either on the West side or South side. If you opt for placement on the West side, place a partition unit made of ACP/MDF fret work to hide the back of the fridge (line in yellow) and also to enhance the look of it when viewed from living area. Breakfast unit is indicated by brown box and take care that the dimensions will not hinder your free walking way to the kitchen. Place pendant lights over the breakfast counter. The space/wall to the left of the breakfast unit can be either used for storage or for placing some decor items/artefacts. Tall unit on the North-West platform has two options - in either of the platform corners. I would suggest to have it on the North side corner (beside the utility door). This tall unit can either house your microwave, oven etc. or just use the entire unit by placing shelves. To further enhance the look: - Use under cabinet lighting, profile doors with spot lights inside, some contrast color open boxes in the cabinets (above the platform) to break the monotony. - Go for simple plain false ceiling and place track lights wherever you want to highlight. - Go for ample LEDs with daylight temperature. - Plan to have a handle less cabinetry (both over and under platform). You have the provision to use corner units, tall unit, rolling shutters, wicker baskets and even an island if you really want it (though I would not recommend). Hi Shraddha, From the images posted by you it is evident that you already have your under counter storage planned and in place. However, if this is not sufficient for you, there are a number of things you can add to increase storage in your kitchen. Let's take a look - 1] The conventional overheads Pros: Adding overhead units provides you with almost as big a storage space as your under counters. All your additional utensils can be easily accommodated in these cabinets hence making the space clutter free. Also, since the cabinets have shutters, all the mess goes behind them and the kitchen looks neater and cleaner. You may opt for the regular swing shutters or the more modern lift ups. Cons: The overhead cabinets make the kitchen space look smaller. Go for light coloured panels/shutters to give it a spacious look. 2] Ledges Pros: Ledges come very handy for keeping frequently used items such as tea, coffee, salt, sugar etc. They look sleek and can add an aesthetic element to your kitchen space. Cons: Since, the ledges are always exposed to dust, cleaning is a task. Also, one needs to keep the items on the ledges in an organised manner to avoid a crowded and clumsy look. 3] Tall unit Pros: If your kitchen is big enough, you can always add a tall unit. This is big enough to house your grains, pulses and all other kids of items and can hold quite a lot of weight. It occupies somewhere between 1' 6" - 3" of space in the kitchen so opt accordingly. Cons: Tall units are expensive due to their hardware and accessories. It is not advisable to use a tall unit in a small sized kitchen as it requires a reasonable amount of space for operation. 4] Island Counter Pros: An island counter adds a lot of working space in the kitchen. It also serves as a good buffet counter or a breakfast table. You can opt for a regular table to serve as an island or go for a properly designed one with additional storage. Cons: It is suitable for a large kitchen with ample circulation space around it. 5] Accessories such as hooks, rods, baskets and stands Pros: If you want to do more with a limited space and not spend much, opt for accessories like hooks, handing rods, baskets, stands etc. They help you in hanging your spoons etc. and hold a lot of stuff which otherwise cannot be accommodated in your under counter cabinets.
