Yep, to the best of my knowledge any creature that exists needs to eat, and every one of those creatures does not eat plastic. Unplattable i'm guessing :) As an alternative, look into laminated particle board. If the termites eat thru that lamination to get to the wood...then they are very serious and i would move

Go for some light color as the room needs to be bright cause there in no natural light source and provide sufficient light source so that your space will visually look bigger and brighter.

I would suggest to put the colours you are looking for in a screen (like white + dark brown which is on your cupboard + grey if you want on the accent wall). Basically asking to create a colour palette to understand how it will look into the room. If in your budget you can change the laminate of your cupboard into a lighter shade. Like just normal finish laminate without any design. Maybe change the handles. This little change can make your room more bright and lifted.
