Hi All,
These are the pictures of my living room.I am not sure what colors will best suit my TV unit wall and the wall behind sofa.Should I be going with wallpaper instead of paint ?

Also,what other furniture/decor can be placed here ?

Kindly Advice.

Hi Swati,

Here are a few add ons which may be helpful in completing the look of the space -

1] Wallpaper behind the tv is a good option. It will add a visual texture to the space.

2] The L-sofa is projecting outside the face of the wall behind it. It's advice-able to put a partition behind it so that it looks complete aesthetically. You may go for something that is visually light yet solves the purpose.

3] Go for a simple and elegant design for the dining table and chairs. You may use a bench instead of chairs to make the area look more spacious.

4] The walls in your dining area already have provisions for wall lights. Use these by putting up paintings, photographs, mirrors or wallpaper/paneling below the lights. You may use a pretty down lighter bracket light or a picture light to complete the look.

4] An evergreen teak wood or pine wood coffee table wood look lovely in your drawing area. You may integrate plants in the interior as well.

Tip: The false ceiling looks too heavy and gaudy. In the process it takes the attention away from the space below and gives the impression of a low height ceiling. I presume you want to give a wooden feel to the ceiling. Here are a few suggestions that will maintain the height of the space and yet look woody and elegant.

Your flat appears quite New, it's already been given some ceiling work.

you can go for same color for your TV cabinet.

Hello Monika, I must say that concrete wall is fantastic! I see a large planter with a large leaved plant there.. I like Jonathan's idea, off white or shades of cream for the remaining walls and ceiling or even a subtle stone colour.. Then we need to talk textures! I think the sofa could work if you move it out a bit from the wall and layer it up with throws and add a couple of lovely cushions.. Warm woods would be nice too to balance the room.. Have you considered adding concrete to other areas of the home? There are some fantastic concrete chairs available both as a chair and bar stool.. Could be fabulous to compliment this room.. Cox and Cox did some pendant lights that were concrete with a warm edge detail.. You could create your own arrangement with a 5 wire ceiling rose and hooks.. A glass topped coffee table could be nice too.. Have a look at eBay or vintage shops.. Oh and one more thing... You can if you like the concrete wall find wallpaper for another room say that resembles what you have in the living room or even marble! It's fabulous and a feature you want to make the most out of! :))

Thank you for your response. Yes. we got the possession in 2016 and the ceiling work is complete.
As you see other part of the living room is currently empty.Do you have any suggestions on decor? Where can I place a dining table? I am planning to color 2 bedrooms door and common bathroom door with dark colors (dark sky blue/pista green/mango yellow/grey may be),will it look good? coloring the L shape wall behind sofa makes sense??

From the first view, I noticed 2 flower pots near TV, please note to extend that further to other corner s.

You can place an aquarium near entry Wall, last pic.

After that we need to have dining table towards side wall. opposite to that is L shape Wall, which you can have a coat but only on one side, not back of sofa.

Decor has many options . Doors color last activity for.

I) Do you recommend any particular wallpaper desigj for our wall behind the unit?
2) Thank you for this recommendation,we were in a dilemma about the partition and now it's clear that we need it for sure
3)I really like the idea of a bench instead of table,but where should I place it? we have open kitchen opposite to the wall and a basin and a common bathroom at the end (picture shared below), sitting
opposite to a space which has bathroom/basin feels uncomfortable.On the other hand ,I don't think it's ideal to place a bench where those 2 chiars are kept.
. Unfortunately getting rid of those celiing work is currently not possible ,but would really consider your option whenever situation permits.

aah such a poor choice of word I didnt actually mean I would get rid of my ceiling work when I said that .This was our plan and we love it till date and would continue to love as long as we could :-) May be we will go with painting's /photo frames as suggested and a bench so it doesn't get all the attention.

To all those who may think this comment is unnecessary ,this was for me :-) I did not find an option to erase 'get rid' after posting my previous post and it just bothered me so much.

In the desktop version of Houzz, you have an option to 'get rid' of parts of your comment :)

Your living room looks good. We really liked RnD's suggestions.

You may want to have jali work extension of the wall that hides the sink if you don't plan to get one worthy of your living room.

Your ceiling pattern - does it not cause the lights to cast a shadow when you turn the fan and light on? From this angle it looks like that you may be having a flickering light effect with them being on, specially at nights.

Yes ,we too loved RnD's suggestions:-) It's exactly what we wanted to hear from a Pro :-) Detailed,On point .

And yes Nitin,it's a human error ,we have flickering effect at night ,We generally don't turn on two of the four lights.

Hi Swati,

I am glad we could help you. As far as your queries are concerned here's our response -

1] Since the tv unit is in a formal space and the main purpose is to watch tv, one should opt for cleaner and simpler designs of wallpapers. Geometric, damask and textured work best. These add the necessary design quotient to the wall and do not make it to busy to look at while you are watching the tv. Also, while choosing any of the above designs choose self patterned or low contrast and pastel shades. If you go for bright colours and too many patterns, it would not only look heavy but will also spoil the tv watching experience. Here are some options to choose from -

Since your sofa is blue, you can go for a pastel blue shade that will echo the colour of the sofa and make it cohesive.

2] The partition is a fair choice. You may design it as rafters or a jali or an open shelf for curios - whatever suits your style.

3] How many people does your dining table seat? Are you going to abut the table to the wall on one side or will it be placed in the centre, with space around for movement? A lot will depend on this but in either case, you may choose to place the bench facing the solid blank wall. Like so -

Here's another option, but i wont recommend you use it as it need a lot of open space around for it to have an impact.

Also, as rightly suggested in the comments above, you may choose to give a jali partition just enough to veil the washbasin.

if u do some minor changes ..might solve ur all problems...first add a console behind the sofa..a rectangle pic/art increase the beauty..road placement on high..if not ..add art pieces..or large mirror....on both side ..now on tv unit...brown textured wall paper behind LED...add soft lights for balance...plants on both side

Hi Swathi,

yes you are right, the place seems empty.. you may try keeping a Console on your front wall that will surely define your interiors. you could also paint that wall to give new abode look with pop of colors to your plaintive walls. Try playing with bright and soothing colors that will flash your interiors into a new world of joy.

Maybe if you colour the tv unit wall in carbon gray it will totally change the space and according to the lighting the wall will highlight and also while watching tv we won’t get distracted due to the wall brightness

Thank you IDUS Furniture store for looking into my query.I have a doubt ,if I paint my front wall where those 2 chairs are kept,is it mandate to paint a L shape wall behind sofa? if yes, should I be going with the same color as the front wall?
Just FYI- I have a brown and beige ceiling and was planning to paint my bedroom doors with darker shades

Thank you so much Sunita .Yes you are absolutely right.I am going to place a painting behind the sofa and we are going to welcome more greenary .

And yes ,high rod placement will difently give an illusion of a high ceiling.We may not be able to modify that but as suggested we will go with corner shelf.
