how do I design a terrace garden in mumbai India. humid climate.
Comments (9)This is a great space to work with. Since you have a good length, you can break the terrace into rooms.. with yew to divide the areas, or tall plants with shallow roots. Grow grass in curves and a pathway to lead visitors through the various rooms. Couple of ideas for garden 'rooms': Bamboo with golden stem or black stem as background, with charpai and 'moda' seating with cushions. A light under the foot of the bamboo, looking up will be alluring. Put up a trellis with fragrant climbers like jasmine and seating underneath on a part of the terrace which gets shade in the evening so you and your friends and family can relax. A dry garden with hardy plants like tall grass and Palm tree, pebbles on the ground to create the look. Plant a small flowering tree in one 'room' Add evocative lighting to create the mood in the evenings. As you can see there are many possibilities. Please ensure the ground is well protected from water seepage etc before you start planting. Also ensure the height of the periphery wall is taller for it to be safe for children and adults. Bear in mind the size of the plant, roots, sun and water needs before you choose your plants. Enjoy the creation..!...See MoreHow are these sizes??
Comments (5)coming to the dining area..yes id say you remove the seating entirely and concentrate on a foyer area since you already have space for a drawing room on the floor.. id suggest erecting a glass and marble wall in line with the wall that runs between the pooja room and the bedroom..say a bit of marble-glass-marble-glass-marble.in this case you have a small foyer area demarcated by this wall feature.you can deck it up by placing a nice console table in front of the central marble wall with a nice mirror to reflect the space and make it look larger or a sculpture with beautiful bracket lights on either side to accentuate the same.and on the backside of this wall you could have a crockery unit with a huge painting or a cluster of family snaps above it. if you could brief me a little on the look you're adapting for your house i could suggest some more treatments for the walls.if you want to avoid using too much marble you could also opt for a marble wood and glass look where you could take out some concealed storage for shoes etc. regarding the drawing room - what about a huge 4 seater in the center instead of 2 - two seaters with a table in the middle as in the plan..if you remove the central coffee table maybe you could replace the single seater with a chaise for 2 and also replace the 2 center tables with a nice long table in the center with an area rug running below it..if you could help me with the room dimensions maybe we could add 2 pouffes in front of the 4 seater so it creates more seating and doesnt obstruct the view if you plan to put a TV on the wall. what look do you have in mind for your terrace garden ? something zen or a little rustic toeing on the lines of the contemporary ? sorry for the late reply as i was travelling.. hope this helps! :)...See MoreHow to utilize area under this staircase?
Comments (19)Hi, There are a number of ways in which the area under a staircase can be utilized. In case of a cramped house or space restrictions, this space can be used for providing storage, services or even a powder room as elaborated below : In case there are no space constraints and all the other areas are taken care of, the space below the stairs can be used for add ons such as a library, study, cellar or a minibar. In case there are any dogs in the house, this area serves as a spacious and compact kennel too : Apart from this, if the space is to be treated solely considering aesthetics, it can be livened up using a bit of indoor landscaping, sculptures and water body : Hope these ideas help.
