Its a really lovely room! what a great place for kids to share. I like kids sharing rooms. I think you need another colour to tie it together. I would suggest a blue tone.... teal, navy blue, duck egg blue. to tie it together. Its a little to pale and looks sparse, but actually isn't. I would leave everything exactly as is, BUT, paint the back wall behind the bed teal and find a simple navy blue wall decal that is fun and kid- like maybe one with a sillouette of a boy and girl playing. I would paint the wall behind the sofa duck egg blue. Then I think it would suit both kids more and look more kid friendly. the blues will balance the pink and cream, but because you have a pale carpet i don't think it will look too dark. don't worry about making it totally kid like, its a room they will grow with, not a kindergarten, and it also needs to peaceful and restful for sleeping. besides with their art on the walls and bright toys everywhere it soon looks bright and kid like. Yes, JudyG that's exactly the way people were using the taller table. Sort of a café look, or casual bar setting. One home had a beautiful huge kitchen all done in white with dark wood floors and RH style fixtures and hardware. Where you would normally think would be a traditional dining room, they had made it up with a large high table and 6 barstools. It almost looked like an extension of the island. Another one was in a very open and light kitchen. It was smaller and where you might think of putting a breakfast nook they had a round café-style table with four barstools. I liked it because it gave a more casual appearance. If people were sitting at them, they were on the same level as those working in the kitchen. Almost like a bar at the island for that effect, but with some separation.

There is no average height for the table and chairs.There're height standards for all the furniture. The standard height for the table is 30" and for the chair, it is 18". The depth of the table should be atleast 36". It might be a little broad say 42" but not more. The length if the table is defined with the seats required. The chair seat size should be 16" with the back height be 30" atleast. It might be more depending upon the design of the table.

Hi Ben, There are many ways in which you may achieve this. Here are some options you may consider : 1. Use the existing chairs as head chairs (chairs along the shorter end of the table as suggested above)You may keep the new chairs in solid colours and upholster the existing ones in prints. 2. Since you have a tight space you may make use of a bench. This works just fine and consumes lesser space. Plus it can be tucked under the table when not in use. In this case, you can make two high back head chairs with fancy upholstery which you can repeat on the bench as shown below, keeping the existing chairs as they are. Hope these ideas help.
