agree with Rupal. One floor option makes the place look larger and keeps the flow. If you wish to differentiate you should only do it in the master bedroom with wooden flooring and in the kids with vinyl or stone or any tile of your choice. Not doing too many floor finishes would also prevent the place from being broken up into different areas that need a separate look and while that look would compliment all the elements in it, you would have to care to see that it doesnt jar the other elements in the house. So for all practical design purposes I think its a good idea to stick to a single neutral flooring element that would compliment the look of each area.

It depends on the overall theme of your house and if there are any special requirements for either marble or wood. Wood is softer to tread on than Marble and Marble is easier to clean.

Hello Rahul, limiting to your query on granite - It is quite a beautiful, natural and hard material. For applications in kitchen, store and balcony they would do good. There are some points you should consider for granite application - - Granite usually occur in dark shades so consider the lighting in the area of application. - Ask the vendor for iron content in any natural stone for avoiding rust marks. - The process of application and polishing is cumbersome but thank god in India, craftsmen are easily available. - Do not go for a elaborate gloss polish to avoid skidding/slippery floors. - It is also advisable to re-polish/reseal them every 3-5 years. However here are a few pros and cons - Pros - Different floorings demarcate the formal and informal spaces in a house and can add character to the space. Colourful IPS flooring, wooden flooring etc. are used these days to highlight a certain space such as the balcony/ terrace and drawing room respectively. You can spend more on the more formal spaces such as dining, living and drawing and go for cheaper flooring options for the bedrooms, bathrooms and balconies. Tip: It is best to appoint an interior designer or an architect if you are opting for different floors and they can guide you better with respect to the colours and combinations. Cons - Different types of flooring visually divide the space and make it look smaller than it actually is. Also, as rightly mentioned above, the wastage of material is more as compared to going for a single flooring type. A single type of flooring a makes the space look seamless and hence larger to perceive. Italian marble works best when going for this option. You may also go for other stones such as granite, jaisalmer and kota. If it gets too monotonous, grooves, different sized stones and patterns of laying can help break it.
