Comments (30)So for this to work, you need to go back through my question and make sure you have answered all of them the best you can. Is the electrical outlet for the counter space going to be right next to the switch, or is it that blurred spot that I see in the picture, . If your walls are Travertine marble, and there are not already electrical boxes in the exact location the lights go, we are going to have a hard time. If a 30" vanity goes in the corner, and you leave 5" on each side for the lights, that leaves a 20" mirror with one light jammed tight into the corner. So if we leave another inch on both sides, for clearance, that leaves 18" mirror. If you put a 3" frame around the mirror mirror, that only allows for 12" of actual mirror. I don't think that is enough mirror. Your bath is too narrow for a mirrored cabinet with built in lights unless it is recessed into th wall. The plumbing is probably in the way for that. Give me your thoughts on what I have just said, and then go back and answer all my questions. Then we can take it from there with a narrower down and focused search....See Moreneed help for my own room
Comments (202)Pankaj, I just realized that initially you told us that the bathroom area was 12'-0" x 9'-0" and later you mentioned that it was 11'-8" x 8'-0". In the last floor plan, I forgot to change the bathroom with the new dimensions. Below is the floor plan with the correct dimensions for the bathroom. The bedroom is ok, I drew it 19'-2" x 12'-6". The new layout does not change the way things are placed. Everything still fit. The only difference is that the vanity is now 4'-4" long instead of 4'-8". and the toilet is closer to the shower by 1'-0". Can you give me the lengths of the walls K and L. They are the walls between the vanity and the shower area. I will send you the new layout once you give me the length of these 2 walls....See MoreRemodelling antique teak wood cupboard
Comments (23)I think this piece is quite lovely. It appears that your couch and chairs have dark wood so I would be tempted to stain or paint the buffet to match these items. Changing the large modern handles to smaller antique ones might help to make it less bulky looking and tie in with the other items in your room.. I like the idea of putting a mirror in the upper door, however much as I like the criss cross effect in the sample pictures, adding more detail may conflict with the curves in your sofa and chairs. You could look for a decorative detail that has more subtle style. As for placement, it might go on the short wall where you have a bench or even on the wall where you have your table with two chairs, one on each side to balance the look....See MorePlanning for disability
Comments (228)Tsilanko, I would always recommend professional installation where needed. But what I am doing here is suggesting that WHEN you are planning to build or renovate, to consider how your plans will affect you in 20 or 30 years time. Split levels are very hep when you are young. A kitchen 3 steps down at 30 is rarely a problem, but might be a hazard at 60, or, as Marjie1059 suggested, if you break a leg. ... All my parents' homes were terrible for old people. They were forced to move to a bungalow in extreme old sge because the location and design of their home was more suitable for an active young couple with a large family than for an elderly couple with stroke disabilities. I would not want to move again, so my present home has features built in that make ageing in place simpler. Mostly small changes, like grab rails, and lever handles on doors and faucets. A major disability suddenly suffered requires major changes if permanent. I did look at this because it came up in the discussion, but if you look at the heading, Planning for Disability, it means just that. Plan ahead so you don't have to make expensive changes later on. But thank you for your advice, yes, major changes are not in the DIY domain....See More
