She is also residing in Pune. For utensils and storage matrials, you can see the Maitreyee's passion v-blog in youtube. Actually I suggest see the indian kitchen tours in you tube. They have amazing ideas. In the side of the kitchen and attached with the common bath indicated in plan), you can create storage. Do not go for the upper cabinet, opt for S hook for hanging utensils and other things.

Going with professional has its own advantages. Afterall he is pro, so he has studied more and has more experience. However is this person from the kitchen shoppee, which is giving you quotation of kitchen installation? In such cases, I have experienced that they just make boxy kitchens where they add lotsa fittings, that increases your budget. Open shelves does not need such fittings, so such are omitted...Normal door wali cabinets are less and number of drawers increased. Going on own is not a bad idea, provided you need to study it well. Note down the requirements, classify work areas and so on... In this approach , you have to go bit slower and carefully. Allow some flexibility in design, so that in future , you can alter as per the need. Sometimes we come to know the problems after few months/ years and we cant change it later. Ultimately compare between [your time+ efforts+ study+ error chances] Vs Hiring professional and go ahead accordingly.

My suggestions: - Go for parallel counter units as shown in picture (below) - Dark blue: fridge, light blue sink - Opp. to fridge, left of hob, you may go for a tall unit (7' tall x 2' wide unit, to maximize storage space)... the remaining 7' width in room (I see room width is 9'4", 2' goes for tall unit, assume 4" wastage)... get 75cm or 60cm hob, this is will still give 2'+ area on either side of hob as 'work area', which is sufficient - I would suggest against U space kitchen, as it will create two corners, and you will be left cramped for 'work area' around hob and sink. Corners pose a challenge for effective usage of storage as well. Might compel you to buy expensive corner units - if you feel you have less storage, either go for loft, or make that tall unit 7'6" and have overhead (above counter units) as 2'6" instead of standard 2' - If you go for loft, you may make the loft U shape (if you have an interior designer, ask them to render it, to see whether you like it aesthetically) All the best, Gopi
