@magspag Thanx for the advice. We wanted to save some cost by not replacing the floor tiles, as well as save by retaining the upper cabinet in its current grey shade. Guess we will go for all-black for the cabinets: both below and above the counter; and put in a new counter-top that contrasts--maybe, a light coloured granite or slate. Here's an idea for a small bar in a corner that you could close off with beautiful draperies. The second photo shows a pretty bar cart which could hold the necessary items, and the third photo is of a simpler butler's tray.

I love dark shades but from my experience oil stains on a dark shaded cabinets in kitchen specifically are more prominent.
